Burning old letters outdoor in a firebin??

Im sick and tired of shredding heaps upon heaps on old bank statements,letters and payslips.Also,my shredder is overheating alot and clogging up alot now. My girlfriend suggested that I burn all my old bank statements,old important legal documents and payslips outdoors in the patio firepit that we have. Am I allowed to do…

Am I allowed to do this,or is this illegal with regards pollution laws??

Keep your old bank statements, burn your old love letters…… or was that the otherway around
