just for time of day, and if you have to wait a certain length of time for a quest portion and just want to get it over with you can sleep for x hours and grab your rewared/continue the quest.

Yea, the sleeping bag was added into Complete and is a very useful addition. I remember having to retry a certain mission about 20 times because it was night time and I had to escort someone and I had absolutely no idea where they went after I spoke with them :)

pretty sure i know exactly the mission you mean :) first time I played chernobyl it was nighttime for me too and I just hadn't a clue what i was supposed to do. I ended up just walking around and managed to run into him by chance.

a few hours later I learned I had a flashlight.

The 'L' key is your only friend in the zone.

after a while i started cheating on L with N, especially second generation N

the rain and lightning at nighttime was just amazing with second generation nightvision, i tried not to use it too often as it was too easy but it just made everything so pretty

Started a new game after getting the complete mod, have to run at even lower settings but the trade off it hopefully worth it overall.

Trying to save that Nimble guy I mistakenly said I'd do it by myself instead of helping the scout team. Engaged the enemy and one of them idiotically threw a grenade against the tree I was behind, it bounced back and took out three of them!

I then won a lengthy firefight with the remaining three and carried on into the building, thought I'd killed everyone but ran straight into another guy inside, missed a few shots and suddenly realised I was out of bullets. The guy was about to blow me to pieces with a shotgun when a wild boar attacked him out of nowhere and killed him! I quickly grabbed his shotgun and blew the boars head off. All of this while a massive thunderstorm was happening overhead

Great intro to the game :D

If that's the case then, why do I have to eat before I sleep? Otherwise I end up hungry.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 23,556 ✭✭✭✭Sir Digby Chicken Caesar

well you get hungry over time in stalker, and if you sleep for 8 hours it's still 8 hours gametime even if it just passes in 10 seconds for you.

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 28,633 Mod ✭✭✭✭Shiminay

yea, hunger seems to be based on in-game time and so if 3 hours have passed and you've been asleep, it's no surprise that you'd wake up hungry.

Sorry to bring up an old thread again but I've finally got around to playing properly this and absolutely loving it so far! Played it a few months ago but my laptop could barely manage it on min settings. Got a new one and already i'd call it the best fps I've played even thoguh though I'd guess I'm only half way through

Currently just about to go into the X18 labs which I've read plenty about so slightly dreading the experience :D

What a game though, never played an fps like it. It feels more like an rpg in that I can take my time and play as i see fit, love moments like going to the top of a hill and watching a beautiful and relaxing sunset followed by an immediate feeling of dread from hearing noises not being able to see sh!t :D

Get oblivion mod. It will make that great game even better.

I really hope they got new One In works. Was awile since I had played stalker games :(

Anyone knows is there mods for Pripyat? I tried to play it again few months ago, but it looks really dated :(

Yup. Although, like SOC, there isn't much choice for core graphic mods. They do have mods that affect the Dynamic Lighting and Weather alot more, thus generally making it look better.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 23,556 ✭✭✭✭Sir Digby Chicken Caesar

there's pripyat complete mod, havent seen much else

if you havent installed the complete mod for shadow of chernobyl, google it and install it. makes a great game even greater.

oh and oblivion mod for SoC is down atm, the guy is fixing it up and removed the download links from moddb.com, he said they'll be up some time in september so hopefully this week

also, stalker 2 is being made afaik...2012 release

X18 is pretty atmospheric. Before I ventured down there, I was expecting all kinds of previously unseen horrors or what have you but it's really more that it's just an old underground abandoned lab with quite an evident past. There will still be plenty to give you the heebie jeebies but I actually thought that the Agroprom underground was scarier.

On balance, I think that the scariest experience in the trilogy is simply being out in the middle of nowhere, in the middle of night, in Call of Pripyat.

Then getting hit by a stray bullet by some soldier hundreds of feet away? :D

I remember there was a quest of killing some monster that was killing off other stalkers in a particular part of the map in COP. It was kind of like a weird cougar monster thing, jesus that scared the crap out of me. You were pretty much dead if you stayed still for even a moment. The mission had to be taken a pitch black night too AFAIK

god damn, went on to moddb to have a look for mods to download and every one that I thought seemed interesting was down atm because the modder is working on improving it

good in the long term, but bloody annoying in the short term.

jesus christ, I thought vanilla stalker was unforgiving at the start

my ****ing god.. this stalkersoup mod has been kicking me in the nutsack ever since I started it up, ****ing anomolies *everywhere*

and the bolts that you use to detect them? that were infinite in supply in vanilla? you only have 1!
and you have to find and pick the ****ing thing up after you throw it away

    --edit

ok, i patched to the latest version and my infinite supply of bolts is back
jesus christ, i guess i wasnt the only person who found that a tad too realistic :)

you are gona need a beast of a machine to run it well.. i've an i7 920, 6 gigs ram, hd5850 and I still get stuttering every now and again. not for long, lasts about 1-3 seconds but still annoying.

    --edit

****ing artifacts irradiate you even if you only have them in your inventory!
i know that makes sense but.. jesus christ

this video explains some of the differences between it and regular chernobyl, it looks pretty cool, but hard. really hard.

I like that idea but what happens if you lose the bolt anyway? Can you go and find or purchase some more?

it must have been a bug in the first release, the infinite supply of bolts was back when i patched it to the latest version

according to some info on the s.t.a.l.k.e.r. facebook page, stalker 2 is going to have some pretty serious drm.

gona need an always on internet connection

part of the content will be located on the server and downloaded as the game progresses, text information/code/quests will be loaded through that connection.

    what

This is a bloody joke. Once again, this will be cracked in no time (were the ubisoft games that used their always on DRM craked? I assume they were) and the only people it will punish is the ones who actually paid for the game.

  • Registered Users Posts: 473 ✭✭ríomhaire

That is really annoying. STALER is a really atmospheric game. The kind you want to play with no interruptions of any kind and my internet just isn't reliable. I often have to reset the router to get it working again. This is pretty much bollocks.

Also how will this affect mods? Mods are a huge part of STALKER and GSC know this!

the guy that runs the facebook/twitter said he is going to get more information about this next week, but for the moment the drm has been confirmed. he only heard about it today too.
