Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

cross-lighting with the flashes works really well with these kind of sports. now if you could that the camera even closer you could get some really dramatic shots with that wide angle!

I'm already as close as I can be without the images losing context of place, perspective and height....and not to mention I'd be getting landed on.

Whereabouts is the park? doubt it's in Ireland, if we had bowls like that over here bmxing and skateboarding would be so much bigger

It's Five Dock park in Sydney. Really good park. Ireland does have a few parks nearing the standard of Five Dock.

these are great, love them all.

Do you have any with the light in the shot to get an idea of positioning?

Thanks. I don't have any shots with the both flashes in them. It was really busy and I was limited as to where I could safely place my flashes without someone knocking them into a 10ft bowl or landing on them. I didn't bring my light stands with my so they are all just sitting on small bases on the ground which limits them to being uplighting so I always get shadows in odd places.

All the black and white ones are without flash, just spot metered for a persons clothing and let the sky be blown. It was late in the evening and the light was fading so I was having to boost the ISO and slow the shutter speed down and adjust the aperture/flash output every few minutes.

It was a real simple set up, 2 flashes, either side of the rider pointed upwards. I've only got SB-80's and SB-800's which aren't great for overpowering bright sunlight. I need to get some Sunpaks going in the future.

Below you can see one flash with the other just out of the frame onthe right on the slightly taller ramp to highlight both sides of him. It's just a convert from RAW, no editing.

I came across this kid about 2 years ago called Brandon Means from Florida. He didn't have the greatest kit back then but he really understood how to light a scene and managed to get him hooked up with an interview/article with the magazine I shoot for. He's probably about 17 now and I think his work is amazing for how young he is.
