Seemingly random instant headaches when drinking

Dunno if this is the correct forum at all but anyway:

I'm not a heavy drinker at all, compared to my mates who on a night drinking, the average they'd have is 8-9 cans.
If drinking cans the average I'd have is 4.


But heres the issue, I very rarely get 'locked' as they say. Why? Cause half way through the night I get a pounding headache.

For a good long time now I've been trying to pin this down, drinking different brands, I actually tend to drink spirits more then beer. But I can never find a pattern.
One weekend I'd have a naggen of whiskey and be grand, the next weekend I'll have the same thing and have a pounding headache before the nights over.
Recently I've tried drinking loads of water before I go drinking to see if that helps, at 1st it seemed to, but again it all seems random, I can't nail it down.

Two weeks ago I had 4 cans of heineken , I did the water thing before I went out, I was grand, felt like I could drink another 4 but I actually didnt want to get locked that night anyway so never bothered.
The other day was over in a mates place, watch a movie head home early kinda thing as it was a week day. Bought 6 bottles of heineken , drank water before I left.
By the time I was finishing off my 4th bottle the headache was so bad I had to just stop there. Never even got to the tipsy stage. Just a pounding head ache. This was at about half 9. Went home and was up till 5am with the same pounding head ache.

I'm sick of this, I hate not knowing if I'm gonna be having a few drinks with my mates will I actually have fun and enjoy drinking or have to deal with a pounding headache all night, its completely random it seems.
None of my mates have this issue and indeed don't seem to be able to even understand it, anyone know what I'm talking about?
