Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi lads,

I was given a 8800 GTX yesterday and was wondering would it give me better performance then my currently overclocked sli 8500GT's ?

    Thx for any advice.

From the benchmark results, we can clearly see that two GeForce 8500GTs, two Gigabyte GV-NX85T256H running in SLI to be specific, are not as fast as a single GeForce 8600GTS videocard in most tests.

Synthetic benchmarks like 3DMark05/06 witnessed a decent performance boost, real world games like Doom 3, FarCry and FEAR saw mixed results. At best, the dual Gigabyte GV-NX85T256H's running in SLI perform closer to that of a single GeForce 8600GT, instead of an 8600GTS. There were a few exceptions like Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, but that didn't shift the general trend significantly.
an 8800 gtx would blow it apart. Still, that entire product line is garbage. Though you may as well use it while it works!

Yeah man, your almost wasting your time with two 6 year old cards in xfire when a single €60-€70 new card could demolish them and use less power and give you higher resolution to play at.

But taken that all into account, if your broke, the 8800 is still a great card to have never mind 2. That was my first mid-range card.

jme makes a good point if you have the spare jinglies. Using the same or less power and the same card slot you could be doing more for not too much investment. It will be a sad day when they retire the PCI-e standard, I don't want to go back to the AGP/PCI/PCIe days, trying to figure out upgrades back then was a PITA.
