CNN quoting a Govt official : Workers have suspended operation's at Fukushima.

Surely something must have got lost in translation ?

Edano: High radiation levels inside plant forced workers to pull back. But levels are already dropping.

True.... but you know what I mean... Ukraine, Belarus are not like Japan. Most densely populated coutry and all that!!!??

Yes, more people, but the same region-wide disaster.

At this stage, I don't know what's going to happen in Fukushima. They have been telling us that everything is fine, but things are obviously getting worse.

It has the potential to be the worst nuclear disaster in history.

Posters here keep saying 'everything is fine, don't panic', but hour after hour since Friday, it is obvious that things have only been getting worse.

    Good documentary here about Chernobyl.

Looks like they have been forced to throw in the towel and are allowing the reactors to bubble away without any human intervention...

An article on the 50 workers with comparisons to Chernobil from the NYT...

"The few details Tokyo Electric has made available paint a dire picture. Five workers have died since the quake and 22 more have been injured for various reasons, while two are missing. One worker was hospitalized after suddenly grasping his chest and finding himself unable to stand, and another needed treatment after receiving a blast of radiation near a damaged reactor. Eleven workers were injured in a hydrogen explosion at reactor No 3"

Just watching a report on NHK there from a shelter. People just sitting there looking into space on their own! There's a high possibility that they've lost someone close.

I've never seen or heard anything like that! I mean. Even though we all know how badly hit they are there... seeing that report from the shelter is an eye opener! Really sad!

That's my source. She was reading out the missing persons from all prefectures. There are over 100 thousand missing :(

I don't think people realise how many people have been lost from the densely populated costal areas.

Looking at some of CNN/Anderson Cooper there in the heavy snow...what horrible conditions to be stuck perhaps hoping for survival under wreckage.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 701 ✭✭✭Cathaoirleach

Ok, just now, it was 60,000 missing people on NHK.

I'm just relaying what they say.

The stock exchange is in serious trouble. Tens of billions have been removed from the economy in panic
