Getting hard to get decent coverage of this from the big news stations sky and cnn are both going on about libya and ****ing royal wedding.

Have to listen to HNK just dunno whats live and whats recorded on there at times cause its all translated.

Al Jazeera on Sky channel 514 seems to be much better than Sky or CNN or even BBC.

Kyodo: Higher radiation levels measured in Ibaraki -- south of Fukushima

Very strange conference. Apart from the fact that the translator is worse than Trapatoni trying to translate English, the management are just apologetic? Definately something there not saying, and they probably don't know the full picture themselves. Very weird.

TEPCO does not seem to be grasping the situation. Fukushima No1 and No3 reactor staff ordered to evacuate. Reading 965.9mSv outside plant. About half of fuel rods exposed.

The reason we cant see the explosion is because the news stations cant get access to them according to Fox who have Shepard smith reporting live from Tokyo.
CNN are showing something that could be an explosion, or could be steam venting.

It's weird, the government scientist said that the containment had been broken, the TEPCO people are saying they don't know if the containment has been breached. In fairness, they all look shattered.

Reports of higher radiation outside plant and also there is a crack in the outer containment vessel.

Steam-like substance seen coming from No. 3 reactor building, did I hear that right?

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,205 ✭✭✭✭hmmm

"The news conference has just concluded. An expert in NHK's studio explains that a decrease in the pressure inside the container vessel could mean that there is now a hole in it, making it harder to keep radioactive material from escaping."

Sorry if this is a silly question why can they use liquid nitrogen or something, although I am guessing the reality is things are gone way too far.

The only silly question for these kinds of things is the one not asked. The thermal shock would likely cause more damage than anything.

They are not being honest something is up at the moment and they won't admit it yet.

It's probably because they don't know enough yet. Evacuations occurred after the Unit III explosion too.

Only 50 employees left at the plant.
To anyone who knows anyone living in Tokyo i would advise them to get the hell out.

Water levels are reportedly being restored at the No2 reactor at the Fukushima No1 nuclear plant. Rods now 2.8m exposed.

Radiation levels outside the main gate of the Fukushima No1 nuclear plant were reported as 16 times normal levels.

How do they know the pressure has dropped if the readings they are getting are false ( earlier they said their guages were misreading?

Theres **** all facts, but plenty of people just dying for this **** to kick off.

8:30am 8,217mSv at gate of plant 3 times the level of natural exposure for one year.

Reporting now of a third explosion in the last hour at reactor 2.
Also that high levels of radiation have now been detected outside the area.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,614 ✭✭✭The Sparrow

CNN weather forecast reported that the winds are in a mostly westerly direction which is in contradiction to NHK which said they were northerly.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,134 ✭✭✭✭maquiladora

3 x annual radiation exposure in 1 hour at the plant gate now.

The gauges refer to water levels, not pressure levels.

    What does that mean ?

    What does that mean ?

might mean a reactor has been breached?

A mass evacuation of a metropolis the size of Tokyo would lead to thousands more being killed...

The situation is grave over there but you shouldn't stoke panic.

And so many more too. All we see is the wave and the rubble, so many individual tragedies, it's hard to understand how we'd cope with that level of heartbreak.

knowing Japanese they would form ordely Q's and slowly die while been trodded on..

This is quite unreal, I am going to bed.

    What does that mean ?

Basically that the pressure could be reducing because there is a breach in the reactor core allowing radiation material to escape and therefore reducing the pressure within the reactor.
