Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Try leaving it plugged in at USB and rebooting to see can it be forced detected that way?

This may sound strange but unplug the laptop, remove the battery and leave it alone for 10/15 minutes.
This will allow any remaining charge to dissipate that might be hanging around the motherboard circuitry.
Eventually turn it back on and again with the USB connection, switch on the external if not on already.

Sometimes cutting the power and letting it drain, forces the inner board to re-assess everything plugged in/connected, afresh - instead of just reusing retained data.

Then do the same with the PC - unplug from the wall socket.
