Why 28 if you don't mind my asking? I'm 25, BA and postgrad diploma a year and a half of sales/ marketing/social media experience with a major Irish state company. Would there by any chance you would PM the details?

Are there graduate/junior/entry level roles in this particular sector that you know of?

no idea man, not really my field. we've hired a few young Canadians who couldn't get much else, but it's not really worked. for what we do (selling advertising in a couple of particularly lucrative sectors) it's all about the little black book. no contacts no sales unfortunately, and its a long grind those relationships from the ground up

that said, marketing and PR should have plenty of vacancies based on the turnover i see in those sectors. the companies around the fashion district cover most of the entry level positions so far as i can see, so if you focus there i reckon you'll find something

high road communications are worth enquiring with
lots of interesting brands and lovely people

Thanks for the info, much appreciated. I've researched this endlessly and it seems a bit thin on the ground for people with <3 years experience, mostly unpaid stuff. And the boutique agencies can be hard enough to get into in Ireland where I have experience and references from the most reputable people going, let alone somewhere where I am starting from scratch! But thanks again!

well if you had references from someone who has an arm over here you might be alright. edelman for example are here, as are m2universal, carat, cohn & wolfe, and a few of the others

I don't. I wish I did. The thing is, like a lot of places, the entry level jobs aren't even advertised half the time. Networking and all that. I'm hoping Linkedin will work for me. I reckon it's going to be an uphill struggle though :(

Heya, just came across your thread and was wondering what its like to work as an architectural technologist???

I have a degree in Architectural technology and want to get experience in it in either Vancouver or Toronto...still deciding where to go!

Hope you can give me some advice in terms of jobs. Thanks

    Hi Sinead,

I've had two interviews in Alberta and I've had two two offers and both of the offers are more rewarding wages wise than the good times at home.... v.nice.

make sure you have a kick ass portfolio as that is ALL that seems to matter and if you're trained up on Revit it's a bonus.. good luck

I don't really know what REVIT is but I know my friend got a positive LMO based off having experience with it. His employer just said that they can't get anyone with experience using it and that they need him for that reason mainly.

REVIT is an architectural drafting program taking over from AUTOCAD, to put
    it very basically.

I've heard of AUTOCAD alright. Handy skill to have at the end of the day.

Yeah that would be great thanks...I used Revit in college and iv done the odd bit of work on the side with it when I can actually get work so iv got some experience with it but I wouldn't have years of experience behind me like yourself.

actually, you CAN just hop on a plane and go there looking for work

the tricky bit is when you successfully find it, since unless you have a visa sorted out, you won't be able to legally work there
