    hi lads and lassies.. a buddy moved nto a new house and inherited a tank.. now after a clean we found 2 black widow tetras, 2 catfish and 3 other fish still alive .. cleaned the tank, filter etc .. bought a new heater and air pump .. but what the hell is this ....

    ive never seen it so im lost... an air line is running into it but i haventa clue...

    Its effectively a sump with filter sponge and the plastic balls are to provide a large surface area for bacteria to grow and trap any large particles of dirt etc
