Can anyone tell me whether Id be safe enough putting my fish in this tank here....

I was trying to read up about it on google but couldnt find anything. I called the local petshop there today and they reckon that so long as I clean it thoroughly there should be no problems.... (but they have steered me wrong before believe it or not, so I just want a second opinion before I sink all that cash into it)..

Any help/advice/links would be great/or personal experience etc :)

A good rinse and disinfect and it'll be grand.

My tank had gerbils in it for years and then sat in the attic for even more years. Now in use again, no issues. Just cleaned it down and it was fine :)

Can I ask what type of disinfectant to use?

I read that you cannot clean a tank or anything to do with a tank with normal stuff as the chemicals in the cleaner will ruin and kill the plants and fish?

    So whats safe to use??

    Thanks.:)

I just used standard flash all purpose.
Did rinse it out a lot after though. No ill effect that I can see on fish or plants...

I use an Ecover spray I got in Superquinn, and a nailbrush.

I also use aquarium wipes and Bioclean glass cleaner.

All less harmful than household cleaners.

And a Tetratec glass scraper, which is great if you don't slice the fingers off yourself assembling it.

Come to think of it we have a special animal safe disinfectant for cleaning the chinchilla cages so something like that would probably be a bit safer. Any petshop should have them.

I would not use flash for a start. I know it worked for you but this person
might not give it a proper rinse out and disaster will strike.
Warm water should be enough or you could use Milton baby bottle sterilizer
    too.
Make sure you rinse it out well after and use de chlorinator to remove any
bleach. Empty and fill it again.
