Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'm considering getting myself one of these.
I've a lot of years experience on bikes but never had a ktm.
    Whats reliability like?
    Good/bad points?
Its going to me my main transport so i
can't afford to be tinkering with it constantly
    to keep it reliable.
Can't afford a new one so about 5 years old.

I like KTMs always have but I wouldn't have one as a daily rider.
If you really want a supermoto then something like the Yamaha XTZ660 or Honda FMX 650 would be better.
KTMs make big horses but along with that comes maintenance and care to keep them sharp.
I would go for an FMX myself, but then I am biased.

FMX and XT660 are woefully underpowered - ride them and see. I just sold my XT660X due to it being so tame.

If you have a decent mechanic near you and you don't mind the extra cost of running a KTM then go for it. I am amazed at the build quality of them and the styling is something else altogether.

    Go for it!

    This!

I was looking into a supermoto before and a few people said to get the above or the drz. If you want a supermoto get a proper one, you need a bit of power. At the time there wasn't many in ireland and they were all way overpriced and I was considering heading to england.

How long is your commute? If you're doing a long commute a KTM definitely won't be ideal, but if it's short enough go for it.

    Thanks lads,
I don't mind doin stuff myself like oil, filter, plug change and other periodicals
like tyres, brakes, chain and sprockets.
Its the other higher end maintenance stuff that needs to be done with ktm's
that I'm tryin to find out.
I don't have the time to do engine strip downs regularly if that is what
    they need.
It is the extra power I'm after. The sort of quick wrist action that sends the front wheel skywards that you just don't get from xt660's etc.
I've heard the ktm's main bearings need to be replaced on a regular enough
basis and if this is true then maybe the ktm isn't the bike for me.

Buy a 990 SM and have everything you ever needed.

Theres a lovely 2008 one on Donedeal right now.

Why doesn't anyone ever list the BMW X-Moto in these 'what should I buy' threads - I like the looks and they are supposed to be quite good!
