Xbox & MS Media center. Banging head against wall.

OK, trying to set-up my Xbox to work with Wondows Media Center and not getting anywhere.
Went through the set-up process on the Xbox, got the 8-digit code -> enetered it on the pc in question and de nada. "Cannot find the extender".

Both are on the same network, on the same ip range & subnet.

No idea how to fix this so would appreciate a few pointers.

It's wifi network with an Eircom router and I suspect I need to change the router settings but have tried a few configurations without any luck..

I'd also try using XBMC (haven't really used it myself, but have heard great things about it!).

xbmc won't allow an xbox to act as an extender will it? also does it still not do live tv?


op, can you confirm your firewall on the media center pc isn't blocking access to the xbox?

Many Posts online of difficulties linking the two if one is wired and the other is wireless, so if Your pc is wired to the router and xbox is wireless try wiring the xbox and see does that help, may not be the cause but it fixed my prob since i put both on wireless

i had this issue but forgot how i resolved it, it was something to do with sharing services on windows it was mighty annoying for me also when i couldn't get it to work

I've done this several times in several different configurations and have been stumped once completely - and that was with windows 7 home premium so I gave up. I have it working for Windows 7 Professional flawlessly on 2 xbox's.

you may need to go into windows media player v11 and set up media streaming for your pc - see what this should look like from media player with the attached screenshot
