i just made a raised bed for growing veg & herbs etc.
any idea of how much soil i would need for 2m x 1m x 400mm.
should i use just top soil or what mix would you recommend?
where should i get the soil?

You need about 1 ton and you could supplement with farmyard manure (latter is available from good garden centres).

Where to get topsoil, well where are you located? A number of suppliers are listed in Golden pages, or you could search fro Enrich, who also offer a combination mix of soil/compost, which would be ideal for your needs.

Tully Nurseries in North Dublin sell enriched topsoil by the ton. Think it is 60 euro??

    Simple maths: 4 x 2 x 0.4 = 0.8 cubic m. 1 ton bag is approx the equivalent volume of 1 cubic m.;)
