    Friday 15th July 2011

    Snatch: up to 90%
Clean and jerk: up to 90%
    Front squat: exploration mission

Snatch was a bit ropey today, timing was a little off. Think I took all the gravity so Ed could max! Clean and jerk was grand. Front squat is still a work in progress and will be for a while to come while I work out my ankle flexibility issues but I'm confident I'm at least going in the correct direction.

I tested my super secret openers for the comp in Edenderry today. It went better than I expected but not as good as I'd hoped.

Started operation stretch+ today. It's like stretching, only better because there's more of it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 512 ✭✭✭supposedly

Snatch: up to 85%, Clean and jerk: up to 85%
    Looking alright here!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,023 ✭✭✭howtomake

Stretch+ sounds good! Think I need some of that myself.

Good luck once again :D. I was thinking of going down, just to check things out but :(. Oh well next time.

    Thanks Howtomake :)

Snatch and clean and jerk up to 70% for doubles today. That'll do it 'till Sat now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 512 ✭✭✭supposedly

    Edenderry Open
    Snatch: 83%
    Clean and Jerk: 93%
    Gah.

    Edenderry open
    Snatch: 20kg x 3, 25kg x 3, 35kg x 3, 40kg x 2, 45kg (f x 2), 50kg,
    Platform: 50kg, 55kg (f), 55kg (f)
    Clean and jerk: 35kg x 3, 40kg x 2, 45kg x 2, 50kg, 60kg
    Platform: 65kg, 70kg (f), 70kg

My lifting wasn't great today. Truth be told, warmup was worst I've ever done for a comp and I just never got that "zone feeling". Felt sluggish and foggy. Don't know why and don't know what happened.
Ah well, there's always Cork which I'd always planned that to be the main one anyway. I had fun buzzing around with folks and meeting new faces. All in all, I'm disappointed with my lifts but had a good day.

The percentages in the previous posts refer to what I got as a percentage of what I was really hoping for (i.e. 60/75)

  • Registered Users Posts: 512 ✭✭✭supposedly

Worked up to a B-E-A-utiful 56kg snatch, it was so quick and slick, one of those mightly whoosh boom jobs that seems real easy and it's just there comfortably above your head before you realise what's going on.
Failed 60kg about a million times then. Coach says I was pushing it away like I was scared once it got to a certain height. Looks like we're going to have to sneak up on 60 the way we snook up on 50. Damn brain interrupting my journey to the bodyweight snatch. I'm going to have to claw my way there 1 harrowing kilo at a time, but I'm getting there soon regardless!

  • Registered Users Posts: 512 ✭✭✭supposedly

Clean and jerked up to 80% for a couple of doubles but I just wasn't feeling the jerks at all; shoulders were a little crabby after snatching yesterday so I just cleaned and front squatted. Think I got up to 60kg for a few triples.

  • Registered Users Posts: 512 ✭✭✭supposedly

    Max Clean and Jerk test
    20kg x 3, 35kg x 3, 45kg x 3, 52kg x 3, 56kg x 3, 59kg x 2, 63kg, 67kg, 70kg (f x 2)
    Front squat: 45kg x 3, 62kg x 3, 67kg x 3, 72kg x 2, few singles at 72kg

Boo hiss. I just couldn't muster up the stones to do the 70kg jerk. Weak sauce today.
Still being cautious with the squats and just drilling the correct movement pattern. I still have to concentrate on every rep but at least I'm able to hit the right positions now and hopefully over time, it'll become as much of a habit as my previous squat form. Stretching is boring and you've to do so much of it for any kind of gain at all. I'm going to stick with it though, I definitely need to keep whatever little amount of progress I've made with my incredibly inflexible ankles; Better than nothing!

Snatch: up to 45kg for doubles
    Power clean: 50kg for triples
    Rack jerk: 55kg for triples
Squat: up to 72kg for doubles

Good day today. Missed one snatch because I got distracted by something shiny but the rest were all grand.
Squats are still tough but not sore so becoming less and less of an issue. Still paranoid but happy enough that it's almost sorted now.

Inspired by the hard work my bootcampers put in tonight, when I got home, I decided to start my supplemental work for abs and glutes that I've been threatening to do for awhile. No clear plan in mind, I decided to just bang ahead and see what was fun and what wasn't.

Set a clock for 8x 45s intervals, no rest and spent the 1st 4 doing rtw planks, 5th was straight situps, 6th was oblique crunches, 7th was rollouts and last one was oblique crunches again. More oblique crunches please and rollouts. Planks feel silly without weight and situps are still rubbish and boring, even after 3mins straight of planks.
Glute and ham work: 2 x 10 split squats with 12kg and 2 x 10 swiss ball leg curls (2nd set were single leg). I rather like the split squats.

Clean and jerk: up to 56kg for doubles
    Power snatch: 40kg for triples
    Press: 35kg for triples
Front squat: up to 72kg for doubles

Was knackered going in to training but perked up and had a great session. Had a bit of a grumpy somthing behind one of my knees so I borrowed Ed's knee wraps. I probably/ almost certainly don't need knee wraps but they feel so nice; it's like a big hug for your knees! I'm going to get me some.
Front squats felt like murder for the first few sets and then suddenly became very easy, although I'm almost certain I was doing the exact same thing for every rep. Must keep an eye on this; I'm possibly overthinking it but easy might mean I'm drifting back into bad old habits and that wouldn't be good. Fun session once I got going anyway. I <3 lifting! :)

Do you know what knee wraps you're allowed wear in comps. My knees feel a little sore sometimes so wouldn't mind getting a pair but don't want to get a pair and then be told no you can't use those

    You want sleeves, not wraps.

  • Registered Users Posts: 512 ✭✭✭supposedly

Yeah, they can be as long as you want but they can't cover any more than 300mm of skin.
I got these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Knee-Wrap-Weight-lifting-body-buildings-weight-Support-/110722207479?_trksid=p4340.m263&_trkparms=algo%3DDLSL%252BSIC%26its%3DI%26itu%3DUCI%252BIA%252BUA%252BFICS%252BUFI%252BDDSIC%26otn%3D8%26pmod%3D160628412346%252B160628412346%26po%3D%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D1784682111841021505&_qi=RTM637056 earlier today for about €11 incl. p&p. Ed has the same ones, only in black and they cost about the same as mine and he's worn his in comps with no bother.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,256 ✭✭✭Molly

Yes sorry, It is sleeves i want. Does the same 300mm of skin rule apply to those?

  • Registered Users Posts: 512 ✭✭✭supposedly

Yup. I have the rules in front of me here and it says that the max amount of skin that can be covered on the knees with a bandage is 300mm. A bandage would be wraps or sleeves. Material is not specified.

Snatch: up to 45kg for some lightening quick doubles
    Powerclean: 50kg for triples
    Rack jerk: 55kg for triples
Squat: up to 72kg for a few singles

Buckets of energy for training today; what a deadly session :) Snatches felt crazy light and really quick. All were right in the groove and fely lovely. Well, I missed one but that was due to getting distracted by something shiny so it doesn't count.
Powercleans and rack jerks were good too. Squats were okay, I'm just taking it handy with them, making sure they're a good fit, slowly building up to previous levels. It's going well. Yay for being sensible!

Stretched (I have been stretching all along, just forgetting to log it)

For today, see Mondays workout. For tomorrow's; see Tuesday's. Took two light weeks together to reset the brain and also fall into an actual training plan for Cork Open. Boring but getting some decent volume work in and really concentrating on form.

Snatch: supposed to be up to 48kg for a single then back to 45kg for doubles but I worked in a sneaky 50kg and it was silly easy!
    Power clean: 50kg for triples
    Jerk: 55kg for triples
    Split squat: 12kg x 10 x 2, 16kg x 10, 24kg x 3

Great session. I <3 Mondays! Always have buckets of energy after a weekend of resting.

    Split squat: 12kg x 5, 16kg x 5, 20kg x 5 x 2, 24kg x 5

Great session today again, buckets of energy!
My friend Alex was around and she helped me out with a new stretching programme OF DEATH! Can't wait for the torture to continue! :)

I've been stretching to the point of tears of late.

  • Registered Users Posts: 512 ✭✭✭supposedly

Snatch: up to 48kg for a single and then 45kg for doubles
    Power cleans: 50kg for triples
    Jerk: 35-50kg for triples

I was naughty and didn't do ALL my stretches and as a result, my shoulders are getting a bit tight so kept the jerks fairly light. Training according to how I feel means no split squats today; I'm not feeling awful but not as spritely as Monday and Tuesday either. Glutes still DOMSed to hell so figured I'd give them an extra day recovery.
Moral of the story: do your stretching kids! (Except you howtomake; if it makes you cry, might be best to ease back a little?)

  • Registered Users Posts: 512 ✭✭✭supposedly

Ended up taking part in my own bootcamp for the craic last night and maybe I got a liiiittle carried away! I was having so much fun, giving it socks... AAnyway, as a result, I was waay too dead for weightlifting today. I got to the gym anyway and spent about 10 years warming up, feeling like muck the entire time!
I worked on Clean and jerk technique with about 50% which was grand but when I tried to powersnatch, it just didn't sparkle so I pranced around for a bit stretching and generally making a nuisance of myself.
    I must really love the split squats though because I did 20kg x 5, 24kg x 5 x 3, 28kg x 5. I have no idea how I motivated myself to do that!!!

Did some more stretching then. Plan is to rest for the next two days and stretch and get very friendly with hard balls of various sizes. I have lots of pockets of tight knarly muscle because I am the laziest human in the universe!

Taper week 1 of 2 for http://www.britishweightlifting.org/media/k2/items/cache/be7685026070406a215779b242f1aa2e_XL.jpg. I am so excited! :) Basically, this taper programme is very similar to my normal week three programme for intensity but a little less volume.

Lifting was great today, again, I felt like I could have snatched absolutely anything that was put on the bar! Snatched up to 90% anyway for 2 easy singles then powercleaned up to 56kg for an easy single.
Split squats: 24kg x 5, 28kg x 5 (kb) then 20kg x 5 (bumper plate at chest) then 10kg bumper plate at side in each hand for 2 x 10. Chest and shoulders were starting to get a bit tight and sore from the kettlebell in the goblet position so switching to weight in each hand for better upper body position.

All in all, a very fun session, everything was all whoosh bang and right in the groove. I'm buzzing after it! :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 512 ✭✭✭supposedly

Powersnatch: up to 45kg for a single
Clean and jerks: up to 63kg for a single
Speed deadlifts, snatch grip: 72kg for doubles and triples
Split squats: up to ~30kg for fives (~15kg dumbell in each hand)

Buckets of energy again today; I seem to be in great form for lifting lately. Hopefully I can keep this up until the competition weekend after next. So excited! :)

Competition in York. Only found out about it last week but cannot stop talking about it and thinking about it. I have already competed in it 100 times in my head! Hopefully it'll go as well in real life now!!

Snatch: up to 50kg for 2 singles
Powerclean: up to 56kg for a single
Speed deadlifts, clean grip: 72kg for triples

Great session today even though I was dog tired. It felt like I was doing something different with my snatches that was faster than normal. Hopefully I can keep it up anyway!

Powersnatch: up to 40kg for a single
Clean and Jerk: up to 63kg for a single. (Well, 2 singles. I pressed out the first one; stupid Dee! Retook it and wolloped it up there with enough force to do 80kg!)
Speed deadlifts, snatch grip: 72kg for triples

Went into the gym with a bold face on me; I've been up early a few mornings and I'm feeling a bit tired but as usual, just being there turned my mood around :) Powersnatches are so much fun!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 512 ✭✭✭supposedly

Added stock press to my warmup. It's such an easy exercise. I'd hate to not be able to do it.

Powersnatch: up to 40kg for a single
Clean and jerk: up to 63kg for a single
Speed deadlifts, mix of snatch and clean grip: 63kg for triples

Great buzz again with training today. The speed deadlifts were pretty much like clean and snatch pulls and I felt like I could have just kept on pulling with the snatch grip and put it over my head! Hopefully the universe will smile at me and I'll be able to do it on Sat :)
