I was just wondering if anyone knows why Wes Holohan was not named in the Ireland squad, he has been MOTM in 4 of his last 5 games for Norwich & would be a great option as an attacking Midfielder which is something we are currently lacking.

I've been asking the same question for 5 or 6 years.

Keith Tracey gets in the squad yet super Wes is still snubbed. It's baffling. He's absolutely superb and if anyone saw him last night on SKY you would have seen how he can control the game for us.

    Probably because he's not British!?

Same as myself. Always been a quality player since he was at Shels.

Excellent player, really deserves his chance. Won't be anytime soon though, he not defensive-minded enough!

Hit the nail on the head there.

Paul Green has 8 caps and isn't as good but because he's defensive minded Trapp likes him. Why doesn't Trapp like creative players? (Eh, Andy Reid in same boat).

No guarantee Trap even knows he exists.

I was just thinking the same thing this morning. IMO the reason comes down to Trap and his whole defensive set up. Traps style of soccer pains me to watch.

The unfortunate bit is I was being sarcastic that the strikers would need to be that way:(

Scintillating manager knowing what in-form and quality players are available to him.

I doubt Trappatoni even knows who he is.

why oh why did trapattoni have 2 come after staunton? he gets away with so much things because people just compare him to staunton.

Trap gave him seven minutes at the end of a game against somebody in London about two years ago.

    Weso's had his chance.

Trap has been watching him since Shels days and decided he didnt like his style of play. I think trap said his link up play with geoghegan left a lot to be desired.

Hes been very good for Norwich and last night he was by far and away the best player against Bristol.

I'd love to see him get a chance. As been mentioned above, doubt that will happen due to his position and his attack mindedness. would love to see Wes and also more of Fahey to open teams up, sadly I dont think it will happen in this campaign.

simple hes skillful, no place for that around here

Skilful, small, creative player who is not a workhorse....and people are wondering why he isn't being picked by Trap???

On that note, I still think we have the players to try 4-3-3 with somebody like Hoolahan playing as the most advanced of the three. Won't see it any time soon though.

Hoolahan doesnt fit into trapps way of thinking, simple.
god forbid Ireland shoud recruit good players!

O'Shea looks to have a hamstring. If he pulls out i wonder what chances Holohan has of getting called up? ...

None. There are defenders he hasn't in the main squad, so an attacking midfielder who has not had a look in is not going to be called up in his place.

he's a poor mans andy reid and we all know what trap thinks of him

It's a moot point, because you're hardly going to drop McGeady, who has had a cracking season for Spartak and is wanted all over Europe, or drop Duff, who seems to be enjoying a renaissance in Premier League form.

    4-3-3

    Mccarthy fahey

    hoolihan

then play duff and mcgeady and doyle up front

We'd be raped. The back 4 would be completely exposed.

    mccarthy-busquets
    fahey-xavi
    hoolihan-iniesta
    duff-pedro
    mcgeady-messi
    doyle-villa

    :)

McCharty is nothing like Busquets, he's a good young player, not a dirty little thug who goes down easier than a 50 escort.

    Also, you are forgetting something...
Our squad is made up of a few good players and then bit part players from the premiership and championship.

We don't have the ability to play like Barcelona.

i cant remember what team it was in serie a anyway, but the manager believed that all pro players had talent its about them go out and do it. anyway whichever team it was played some brillant football

this is what that guy gabriel marcotti said but cant remember how long ago

obviously we cant play like barca but we can play much better stuff and more effective than we do now

Maybe the Verona team from 20's odd years ago who were very good?

To attacking for trap if he had no skill but could sit and defend he would have been in already.

The only shelbourne player from a few years ago that would have got it was Doolin lol

im not sure the point was that 'on paper' the team were a load of journeymen but the manager turned them into such an attractive team.
