But the charter is not just the posting rules, it is where the remit of the forum and it's ethos are posted. This becomes even more important as the site grows and posters just have to figure out not all forums are the same and communities differ.

Yes in some cases it's there and never read and it seems the majority of posters dont need to read it, they cop on while reading the thread and don't need to know what the 'law' is like most law abiding citizens. For those who are going to cause issues it's the rope to hang then with if it's needed, for other's it should be a hand reference guide.

TBH a lot of the issues with the charter is not the word but the mess most of them are and the lack of uniformity. They should have the site rules references but the remit/ethos of the forum should be in a simple paragraph clearly hightligth so a quick read of that is all is needed and the rest should be boilerplate.

But this is only re hashing the topic of Charter Reforum which as been bandied about for the last 2 year from when the site FAQ was writen and nothing done about it but burried the topic in the list of things for FeedForward. FeedForward which is starting to be a euphemism for yeah, yea we'll get around to that some day.

Or we will look into things which are important to the business side of things like reps and things which bring in revenue and the issues which will help the community are left languishing with no action or when there has been a decision left on the long finger as it doesn't seem to be a move the 'company' has an interest in.

Interesting post Sharrow. One that needs some time to reply to.

Is the perception out there that all we care about is revenue and aren't bothered about community issues?

What are the community issues that we need to sort?

There will always be that perception, there is unfortunatley little you can do about this.

There are people that wish the site was more circa 1998 - but the reality is now different and the size of the site has grown as has the alternatives to boards.ie, not to mention the increased running costs of the site.

Who do you mean as we?

Yes it is a perception of the Feedforward process, that it's a spoonfull of sugar.
I didn't give it any creedance until it was mentioned to me it's been a year of Feedforward and what has it achieved, what has been implemented, and are things better or worse after that year, and of what as been implemented are those changes worth while or just pissing people off and what has been left unimplemented and not even discussed yet.

We='the company' as you mentioned above.

Fair enough re Feedforward. Admittedly not something I'm intimately familiar or involved with.
