just something I saw in another thread here about strimming reminded me of a bronze beech I removed for a friend last year.

Thought it worth passing on.

The tree was approx. 30 years old but had been slowly dying for the past couple of years. When he asked me to have a look at it I could see his new toy a petrol strimmer had effectively destroyed the bark around the base.

Just be careful when strimming around the base of trees, shrubs, hedges, etc as it is very easy to damage the bark. An electric strimmer will do damage as well as a petrol one.

In severe cases the effective ring barking will kill the plant as in the case above. Even minor damage may allow infection to set in which can go unnoticed until the plant eventually dies.
