Used to go out with a Hungarian girl, don't ask, so been to Budapest several times.

Worst thing l found about Budapest was been ridden without being ridden. I wouldn't mind but it was at a time when I could have done with a ride

10 weeks since we drained it. 6 weeks since the seed went in.

What we couldn't walk across 10 weeks ago has now become so dry that even some of the seed struggled and the weeds got a chance to get ahead of it. We sprayed the weed off over the weekend.

I have said it before, but I'll say it again. We spent about €4k on 9 acres between drainage and reseeding. This was land that was almost unfarmable. Now it's very dry and has a lot of potential for the future. We talked about going out to buy or rent extra land, but the old question lingers - why take on more land when you are not using your own to its full potential??

Great work rellig. May the drains have a long and healthy life. Any sign of iron ore? That would seem to be the main thing that would scuttle you.

Bizarre stuff went on behind the Iron Curtain.
I spent a day in Russia during the early '90s. Mad place. Seriously dysfunctional government. Anyone that thinks the state here should take more control of things should be made spend some time in these places.

    Yeah I agree with you
Iron clogged up the exits from mine after less than 2 years
Started off great ran for weeks but after the first winter iron oxide started to form
Having said that the land dried significantly,if only we could get back to jet the exits and maybe dig down to a few pipes to see how far back the iron oxide extends

    Hi Relig,
Iv seen lots of estimates on here for reseeding costs of 300-450 pa, if you dont mind me asking, on your 4k what was your approx split between drainage and reseeding? Similar piece of land near by me that I am thinking of putting an offer on and cleaning up approx 5 acres in total. think id get it for about €10k and trying to work out what id need to spend to get it right..

Reseeding came in at under €120 per acre because all we had to do was run the land leveller on it to level the soil after the digger had been over it to open and close the drains.

There doesn't appear to be any iron ore in the ends so far. The area would have some iron ore, but that would be in upland as opposed to bogland like this.

Next plan is diy geotextile drainage. Going to buy a cheap sack stitcher and sew the geotextile around ordinary perforated drainage pipe so that I can put it in the ground next spring to see how it works.

Is that the same stuff lads do be talking about wrapping stone with to prevent it clogging and use no pipe?

Do you reckon it would have the same problem as the Connacht Argi pipe with the iron, as I have iron here.

I have only seen lads post here about wrapping pipe in terram. I'm planning on making a sleeve for the pipe with unwoven geotextile similar to the cloth used on the connacht agri pipes.

if you have an iron problem, then i recon the same problem would exist with iron build up as posted here by others.

    Probably not.
The first lad I thought was over the mark though.
Must say I'm a bit disapointed that he was only a 2 he had a bit of fat around the tail head.
I've consistently had lower fat scores from this factory this year. Probably my eye that's off though

Funny story re Budapest. I was there havin a quite pint in a pub when a stag party from Cork arrived in, rough enough. One of the lads I was chatting to had been in a fight the night before. Cops arrived, bashed him over the head with a trunchen. Lugged him off to a 'big house' for the night where the staff robbed all his money and put put him in a padded cell with another gentleman, who kept pissing in the middle of the cell. He was let out the following day.

I'd say he deserved every bit of it!

Nice stock. Have you any PB? You really can't go wrong with Charolais. I went to the bull sale at the mart earlier in the year. Limousins were dancing around the ring dragging their owner around with them. In the ring nextdoor the charolais were strolling around the ring at a leisurely pace without a care in the world :).

that's more down to time spent training than breed. Some lads only try halter breaking a week before the sale.

I agree with JDI, on the char being calmer than the lim.
However I bought a young lim this year. Son of Wilodge Cerberus. Must say, never had such a calm easy to handle animal. Seems to love going into the crush. Cerberus docility figures aren't the best, so I'm giving full credit to the breeder. Very well handled and trained animal. Early life handling and management of any animal, has a significant impact, on adult temperament.

Cows were maybe too good. You'd want to be getting the likes of them in calf to justify keeping them for the winter.

We used all ai that year but for life of me couldn't tell you what he was out of as the brother was taking care of all that
