Following this lad yesterday. Had a lovely mural along the length of the tank. Pastoral scenes in multi colour, with cows grazing in a rural idyll. Looked wholesome and healthy. Then this warning on the back side!

1 ton of a 7 year old limousin bull that had been isolated from the females. Every new gate here will be a heavy duty one in future.

2 for the bull in July, lim x shorthorn heifer on the left and cf61 heifer on the right. Lim about 350kg now and cf61 about 370, be happy if they were 400-420 to bull them. Neither are going to be huge big cows anyway.

Ya she's out of a very milky cow. Born the end of April and was about 330kg coming off the cow in October with no meal fed on rough grazing. They are a bit scruffy looking after the winter now but if the hit grass in a few weeks they would take off like a train.

She let me to sit on her from the first time. She even has walked with me on her back. I'm happy about her.
This shed is old. We keep there sheep, goats and weanling calves. Anyway, it going to be left as a small livestock shed only, in the future.

When I was young we had the odd very quiet one like that. As a word of caution I'd urge you to be careful of these "pet" cattle. They can turn out to be a handful.

I hope she won't. All other heifers of similar age are almost as gentle as this heifer. But from all very calm heifers we've left for breeding none of them was handful.

Had a good night last night and the right result for a change. Two calved and no help was needed. They popped them out on there own. The restricted feeding is a massive help this year.
First at around 3 a CH bull (cf60)


and then at 7 an AA heifer (GJB)

Thanks gengis. It's a good shed alright but there's still things I'd change if I was doing it again. Hindsight is mighty.

Indoors in another shed for a week with the rest of the spring calvers and then depending on weather I'll graze some of the meadows with them.

It would be nice to have them all out by April 1st and that'd be early round here.

She a right good calf but I'm determined to have a year off from keeping replacements .. Kept heifers every year since 08 and would for one year just have one group of cows

Yeah, you can't keep them all. In the marts at the moment good quality heifers around 350kgs are making a €900 and top quality a grand or more. There'll be no problem selling her later in the year.

Yea no bother to her she calve a bus. She came down for a feed of nuts at 7 and made her way up the hill and checked her at 10 and she was licking him.

That's a lovely looking cow ronan and the calf is a smasher. Post a pic again in the autumn. She will make some job of him.

We use to find them regularly enough back when we were milking cows. They could be a good lump bigger than that too.
Your woman must have thick skin if you are touching her up with those hands ;-)
