Playing brown at rb gives us extra height at set pieces. Good to see park back on the bench, another option possibly could come on for giggs later on

None of them can organise, though. Brown and Smalling are a mess together at CB and when Evans is thrown in too, I sense disaster.
So put Fabio into the equation and it's still a disaster with less experience.

I think Smalling and Evans will do alright, I feel it in my waters.

Haha I actually considered that - I was gonna but a capital letter at the start of each of the quartet's inclusion - ValeRooNanDez......but I didn't feel the need to dumb it down for my fellow MUFC thread intellectuals.

Anyone else feel that this is ominous for Berbatov. It reminds me of the end of 05/06 season, when Fergie froze out Van Nistelrooy.

I wouldn't be surprised if he was offloaded in the summer tbh.

Sturridge To do his Parent Club a Favor and bang in a Goal or Two :)

He either starts the bulk of our games or should be shipped out, he doesn't respond well to being thrown into games as a sub or after a lengthy time off, so there's no reason to keep him around.

The man is utter class and the entire situation is very disappointing.

I hope not, he still has an awful lot to offer.

Its no reflection on him really, Hernendez is pretty undroppable at the moment and really transforms the team with his pace and movement. Much as I'm disappointed for Berbs, I'm more excited about Chico + Rooney.

    Hargreaves :pac:

    I can only dream...

But who will we bring on for him in the 3rd minute?

I'll be backing Utd, but I'll wait a few minutes for the price to drift, don't see Utd scoring early.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,190 ✭✭✭✭IvySlayer

Who do you rather want on the pitch today - A man who will chase down every ball, drop into midfield, track back, get stuck and create chances or Berbatov?

And who do you want playing beside Rooney? A pacey finisher with the movement of a honey badger taking on a cobra!

I agree, he has never scored for us from the bench and nor does he ever look like scoring coming from the bench. He needs to start games to have a desired impact.

Saying that he will probably score from the bench today:P

Hernandez is undroppable at the moment. I think the problem Fergie has with Berbatov is that he often dosen't show up for the big games. He always seems nullified. Also, Hernandez's goals this season have been way more imortant that most of Berbatovs.

Saying that, he is a class player that offers more to the team than goals. He's good at holding the ball up and his link up play is first class. But I think Fergie is pissed off he dosen't score enough when it matters.

Bolton: Jaaskelainen, Steinsson, Wheater, Cahill, Robinson, Elmander, Holden, Muamba, Petrov, Kevin Davies, Sturridge.

Subs: Bogdan, Taylor, Klasnic, Moreno, Blake, Alonso, Lee.

Attacking line up from Bolton with Elmander, Davies, Petrov and Sturridge all starting.

    Sturridge will almost certainly score.

It's great to see Valencia back for his first start. As good as Giggs has been this season, Valencia is that little bit extra. Valencia has that telepathic vision of Rooney and where he is, and Rooney has a telepathic vision of where Hernandez seems to be.

I'll chance my arm out here and say Hernandez to score from a Rooney assist from a Valencia pass/cross.

For all the people complaining about Berbatov not playing etc. STOP COMPLAINING.

Start Complaining when neither Hernandez or Rooney or Berbatov have scored in five games.

Leaving Berbatov out is a good problem to have.

Hernandez has passed Berba out, simple as that. Berba goes missing all to often, and banging in the goals against poor teams when we're cruising wont save him.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 21,235 ✭✭✭✭flahavaj

A lot of knee jerking in here.

Chico forces his way into the team does not automatically = Berba is sh*t all of a sudden.

Why not just be happy we have such good and varied options up front? The PL's top scorer on the bench waiting to come in. How bad.

Van der Sar; W Brown, Smalling, J Evans, Evra; Valencia, Carrick, Giggs, Nani; Rooney, Hernandez.
Subs: Kuszczak, Owen, Berbatov, Park, Fabio, Gibson, Gil

I dunno, Rooney's been pretty damn good lately. Scoring goals too which is the most important thing. I thought he was sensational against Marseille.

Rooney and Chico are the form strikers right now and have extablished what looks like a very promising strike force. Fergie has made the right decision.

Anyway, if he didn't drop Rooney when he was absolutely dire a few weeks back, why would he drop him now when he's showing glimpses of his best form? Makes no sense.

Thought Rooney was on great form v Marseille so he deserves to start, although Berba has a good record against the so called weaker teams and also at Old Trafford.

I missed most of the last Marseille game tbh, so couldn't judge him on that. But in the games before,I wouldn't say he was very impressive.

Also,I think Berbatov has done more over this season to deserve to be ahead of Rooney.

@flahavaj I think he should have been dropped a few weeks aswell

I can see Rooney dropping into midfield every now and then to help Giggick, cause they're a tad weak.

I think the real winner here would be Carribson©. Sounds just exotic enough for you to know it's going to be underwhelming.

Or like an obscure Brazilian playmaker.

We have a lack of mobility in the centre which could be a problem. If we can get it down the wings quick we should be ok. I feel we might need early goals before Giggs and Carrick tire and god forbid Gibson is introduced.

Carrick, tire? It won't be exertion from passing the ball forward anyway* :pac::pac:

*Carrick to score and be an all-round passing legend today

I should have put it better. Carrick has a lack of mobility and Giggs will tire. We do have 2 wingers that can really put full backs under pressure and plenty of room out there to do it. If they can get early balls into the box im sure Chico and Rooney will put them away.

Evans at CB means we will almost certainly concede from a cross.
