For me, there have been a few that really shocked me.

    A Serbian Film.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Serbian_Film

One scene (I will not even mention) shocked me to my core... if you have seen it, you will know what I mean. A Disgusting film
Jaysus, I am shocked to the core just reading about that film!

Holy shiite did you read that aswell .

That movie sounds well wacko .

I only heard of "A Serbian Film" from reading this thread,so i got it and watched it yesterday, and i can honestly say its a disgusting sickening film whoever thought up of the "newborn porn" scene should be in prison ,its just morally wrong on so many levels, one of the last scenes with the father and son is paedophilia and they producers should be arrested for it.

Films dont shock me but this did,its disgusting and should be banned around the world.

Went to see that at the Jameson film festival last year, people got up and walked out. One ****ed up film!

Bad Boy Bubby, especially after smoking some of the finest hydro Oz has to offer. I brought it home with me on DVD and the people I lent it to didn't even get ten minutes into watching it before they turned it of. its an Austaralian movie. We were told to rent it out when we were in Oz, its a ****ed up film that will stay with me forever, when people get talking about the maddest film they had seen, I always mention this film!

Pop and the cling film Killers!

Amistad was another movie that shocked me.. There is one scene where
all the weakest slaves are deemed to be worth more dead than alive to the insurance company and the captain has about 20 slaves chained together and attached to a huge rock that is thrown overboard and they are all dragged screaming over the side of the boat
.. truely horrendous viewing. And again, it all happened.

I feel your pain. I was about 11 when I found that hidden in the top of our cloakroom, supposedly out of our reach. I'd forgotten about it until I read this forum. Its very disturbing. On a lighter note tho Apocalypto was a pretty good film. Makes you appriciate what you have.

You don't actually see anything (thankfully), it's just heavily implied. So while extremely disturbing, I wouldn't go so far as to say it's child pornography (which I assume is what you meant by 'paedophilia').

Oh, and I'd like to thank everyone who replied with film names/links etc. I've been watching the mentioned films one-by-one the last few days. Might have to give it a break for a few days though...it's very emotional material.

Yeah thankfully you dont actually see anything and its only implied, still very hard to watch and even the thought of it is just so wrong.

Watched "Alive" today, about the airplane that goes down in mountains.

Passengers have to eat the dead.

    Not a horror it's a true story.

Probably showing my age here but here's a few that got me thinking

Salvador - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091886/ - James Woods was brilliant

Platoon - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091763/ - Hell of a cast, 2&1/2 men and Dr Cox as you've never seen them before.

The Mission - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091530/ - Ray McAnally is one of the best Irish actors ever.

Exodus - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0053804/ - Puts a lot of modern politics into context
I'm saying Saving Private Ryan here. The thing is, I'm not a huge fan of the whole movie, but the way they captured the D-Day landings shocked me and has stayed with me. I cannot begin to comprehend the mayhem and the sheer terror and what seems like luncay of running into heavy machine gun fire. And most of them only boys.... It makes me sad and angry that things like that have happened and the film made me try, unsuccessfully, to imagine what it must have been like to be in one of their shoes. Thought about it for quite a while.

So for that reason, even though it's nowhere near my favourite movie, it did have a lot of influence on me, maybe the most

If you thought that was good I would recommend

Enemy at the gates - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0215750/ - far more true to history but still soft soaping it. Ed Harris's best role to date

And my most thought provoking film ever is

The Grey Zone - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0252480/ - Based on one chapter of a book I read when I was about 16 and it fairly much defined my philosophy on life since then. Harvey Keitel nailed his role.

"Precious" was pretty shocking, was thinking about it for days. Powerful performances.

Flying Monkeys, the ultimate Witch ever, Horrific tornado, songs you cant get out of your head.....:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

    The Reader and Pan's Labyrinth

    Forgot to mention "The Orphanage".
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0464141/

The twist in the end was somewhat disturbing. If you don't mind subtitles, it's worth watching. It's very tragic, so the more sensitive may want to bring some hankies.

Watched Buried last night. OMG, what an amazing film. Hats off to Ryan "Van Wilder" Reynolds for pulling off what is effectivly a 2hr one man show.

It was a very intense and I think Ryan captured exactly what it must be like to feel the hoplessness of the situation.

I have to say it disturbed me because I am pretty sure that is how I would react to waking up in a coffin underground. The crying, screaming, panic and ultimately hope.

    Top notch movie
    8.5/10

    +1
Great film. I watched this last week and its one of those movies that make you think "what if that was me?"
I found myself still thinking about it a few days later. Great performance from Ryan Reynolds

An American Crime really disturbed me. The film itself wasn't too bad, I think reading about the horrific real- life event that it's based on really kept me awake for a few nights after.

    Grave of the fireflies http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grave_of_the_Fireflies

Saddest movie I have ever seen period. Probably the best true portrayal of war some people had to endure regardless which side they were on.

Not scary or violent but 2001: A Space Odessey really got me thinking, absolutely cracking film, especially considering it was made in 1968

So ahead of its time!!! My favourite movie.

A link to the 15 most disturbing movies ever made - http://www.popcrunch.com/15-of-the-most-disturbing-films-ever-made/

Some rough stuff in there. I tend to avoid this stuff - I like being able to sleep and not being terrified every day. The only one I watched was A Clockwork Orange (and that was in German, so probably doesn't count, as I don't speak the language).

What a ridiculous list (for the most part).

Saw,Hostel,The Human Centipede,Paranormal Activity,25th Hour and Brazil on a list of 15 of the worlds most disturbing films?Whoever compiled that list has led a pretty damn sheltered movie viewing life.

On a Serbian Film.I didnt find it even remotely shocking.Ive watched alot of really messed up things but alot of the most depraved have some element of reality to them.A Serbian Film though is so outlandish,so ridiculously preposterous in concept and delivery that it turns into a parody.I mean ffs
a man gouging someones eye out with his penis, gimme a break will ya.
It sets out to shock for the sake of it and fails miserably.

    Anyway,rant over.

As I mentioned above, some of the most shocking films Ive seen have a basis in reality and had the "that happens in real life" element to them, thats a helluva lot more disturbing than anything in a Serbian Film.

    The Warzone.
The ever reliable Ray Winstone stars in this bleak tale of incest. There is a scene towards the end that I found frankly horrific viewing.Excellent movie but tough going.

    Scum
Ray Winstone also stars in this brutal tale set in a borstal in the UK in the 70s.Its a violent movie that includes
a rough rape scene on a minor and a very graphic suicide scene.
There is nothing exploitative in this film, its delivered very matter of factly which is why it packs such a punch.

    Titicut Follies.
Documentary from 1967 filmed in a mental hospital in the States.Very tough going and I defy anyone to watch it and not be moved and shocked by it.Think One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest and multiply it by 1000,make it real and you are coming somewhere close.

    Bully.
Larry (Kids) Clarke's film based on a group of teenagers that decide to exact revenge upon a bully in their group.Violent, depressing and as downbeat a movie as you are ever likely to see.

    Cutting Moments.
For a film thats only around 20 minutes this packs a huge punch. No real plot, little or no dialogue but it contains 7 or 8 minutes of graphic, and I mean graphic self mutilation. Not for the squeamish.

If you act like prey you will become preyed upon. He leads Kanta through the lions because he in not afraid and believes if he does not act like prey he will be fine.
It's supposed to be symbolic of neds I think. Act like prey and neds will mess you up but if you prove you're not then they won't.

And I guess maybe it was trying to show that John had reformed by him leading Kanta through the lions but it was a messed up ending...make of it what you will.

Yeah i agree that for the most part of A Serbian Film it isnt shocking, the scene your on about it is funny, but the other two scenes "Newporn porn" and "The Family" are shocking.

You see what some some people find shocking others wont, like i thought Bully was more of a comedy than shocking or anything serious but thats just me,like wise with Scum i didnt find anything wrong with that its not a bad film not great but watchable.

I haven't seen the other films your on about, ill try to get them to see what they are like.

Saw a review for this movie last night and the trailer alone has changed me forever

    The Worm Eaters
Its meant to be a comedy about a guy who loves worms so much he lives with them in the woods. When the evil mayor takes his land, he decides to spike everyones food with worms that turn those who eat them into (yep, you guessed it... Worms)

Real worms were eaten in this movie and seems to be lots of close ups of this!

    Trailer Here
**Be Warned - This is really really gross**
