Moss on Yard Concrete

    Hi all

I'm looking to prevent Moss building up again on my yard.

I have a small north facing concrete yard that doesn't get any sun, and
with our wet Irish weather, moss is right at home here.

Yesterday I gave the yard the annual blast with a water power washer
having brushed in a bucket of warm water and bleach an hour before.

Most of the moss is gone now, and the concrete looks quite bare and porous.,
ideal for moss and weeds to get a foothold again.

I'd like to get some way to stop the moss building up again, are there
any concrete treatments or sealants I could buy to prevent this?

    Thanks

Moss will grow even in the smallest dimple in the surface, even if the surface has been sealed. I find that Goulding Moss-Clear solution works very well clearing moss, and it certainly seems to stop it growing again. Of all the products I've tried it is the one that seems to do what it says on the tin.

i noticed over the cold snap we had in december i put down rock salt outside my mams back door to stop the snow building up so she could get to the shed. a short time after i was out in the garden after the snap i could see the parts of the slab that has the salt put on it looked like they had self cleaned, like it had only recently been layed and the other dirty mossy parts that hadnt got touched with the salt. ill get a pic up later if i can.

i think if the salt breaks down into the concrete it will inhibit and future growth of moss and the likes.

im not sure if this is true of not but im just going on what im seeing.

would be a relatively cheap solution to do when it rains next, jus sprinkle some rock salt out

Salt is not good for concrete, don't use it.

i dont think putting it down once is gonna do any harm.

if it is so bad for concrete then shops and builders providers would be liable for damaging private grounds.

people dont seem to have any problem putting it down numerous times when theres ice about, and the council trucks spreading salt when theres a cold night predicted.

it will keep the moss away with little or no damage
