    Hi
    was just on qualifax
and saw this along with all the science courses in the requirements section

just confused about it saying foundadtion maths would do at the end when it say you need a B3 in a pass paper
just wondering could someone shine some light on this for me please

    Thanks :):)

Grade B3 in Ordinary Level Mathematics (Grade D3 in Higher Level Mathematics also suffices) and Grade C3 in one of the following Higher Level papers:Applied Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Physics with Chemistry, Biology, Agricultural Science.

A Special Mathematics Examination will be offered at UL following the Leaving Certificate results for those students who did not achieve the Mathematics requirement.

Foundation Mathematics and Foundation Irish are not reckonable for points purposes. Foundation Mathematics is acceptable in fulfilling Minimum Entry Requirements.

It should be noted that candidates may continue to fulfil minimum and specific subject requirements for more than one sitting of the Leaving Certificate.

    I's simple really.

UL has certain requirements for entry to the university to do a course. Those requirements include having at least a pass in at least foundation maths.

But to do a specific course, some of them have specific requirements. So for the particular science course you were looking at (and probably all science courses), they require at least a B3 in at least ordinary level ("pass") maths.

Totally understandable that it's confusing - after all, judging by what you've posted as listed on qualifax, it could be presented in a manner far easier to understand.
