anyone have any word on the Shane Horgan Cup this season?

    Midlands won it last year.

Leinster youths(u18) trails last week on the 17th in Donnybrook, could be a weaker year than usual as several players who played shane horgan cup have moved to schools rugby.

Aaron Browne, Lloyd Stephens, Michael Milne amongst others.

Some players to watch out for are: Sean Masterson(Portlaoise), Kevin Dolan(DLSP), Christian Byrne(Navan), James McCourt(Suttonians), Ruadhan McDonnell(Longford).

Contact Leinster branch on twitter, some of the regions have social media accounts contact them
Masterson, if like his brother, is a good player.

Agree. 2-3 of belvedere team this year are ex navan too ( recall Jennings and Mckeon for definite playing youths for them think scrum half o Sullivan is too. Also think skerries are producing very good teams consistently

They are and when all these players find their way into their AIL team Navan could go far.

Navan beat Carlow 13-11 in u17 Leinster premier division final
Carlow Tullow Harlequins beat Gorey 24-23 in the u19 Leinster first division final

Skerries leading Navan 13-10 In the Under 19 Premier Division final

    navan win 23-13

Navan's record is astonishing in recent years. If they can get these players into their AIL set up they'll really progress up through the divisions and have a support/player base to stay up high in the AIL unlike say Co Carlow etc

Munster quarter finals at u16/18 this weekend. Lots of usual suspects through to the semi finals - Bruff both age groups, Waterpark in 18s and have u16 quarter next weekend. Dolphin are in u18 semi and will play Newcastle West or Cashel
Bruff play Waterpark in the other

Young Munster play Bruff in 1 u16 semi and Ennis, who beat Skibbereen 15-5, will play winner of remaining quarter between Waterpark and their quarter final opponent which isn't known at the moment AFAIK

Unfortunately for Navan most of the youths end up going to University in Dublin and elsewhere and get involved in teams in those areas

Yes but if they keep producing players at level they are they are bound to keep a certain percentage playing in Navan and it will kick on to the AIL team in time

Bruff will play NCW in the Munster under 18's final, Young Munster qualified for the 16's final after beating Bruff, wonder if they would have their schools players back for the final. I think they had 5 starters from the Comp team playing in the schools final who they haven't had available in the pan munster so for and probably others from other schools.

Young Munster wont get all their schools players back. If any players played junior schools final or were on team sheet in quarter/semi or final of the junior schools cup they are ineligible to play in the Pan Munster competition. Its the same rule as the senior competition.

Any players in particular stand out in the two games?

Any players in particular stand out in the two games?

Was at the YM game, stand out players for them were the try scorers 10 & 12. A very late intercept try by Waterpark won it for them, two evenly matched teams. It shows the depth Munsters have at 16's level they have 9 or 10 schools players to come back in for the open cup.

10 and 12 for YM, 10 for Waterpark and 15 for Newcastle West/Estuary.

The 15 for NCW was a Munster U18 clubs representative.
Between both sides in the 16s, having refereed both sides over the past 2-3 seasons, there is several future academy/pro players. Two seriously talented sides

Both have a decent few on next year's Munster u17s club side.

Jasysus, the standard there is very good. I was watching the U16 thinking it was U18. Youths has come way on since my day.

Most of those players if they kept playing would be able to play AIL.

Dont be so naive about the standard of youths rugby.... Majority of these players at this level do go on to play AIL and above. The last few club finals in munster have had a few players whove went on to play pro ball and many more go on and play AIL/top junior level and junior interpro level.
