Having seen all provinces now at one stage or another at least once. Think Connacht will win next weekend

    From MR
Colm McMahon has made three changes to the combined Munster U20 and Development side for their clash against Leinster in Donnybrook tomorrow night (Friday, September 16, 7pm).

With Connacht not taking part in the competition and as both clubs defeated Ulster in their opening games, the winners tomorrow night will take the title.

The Munster U20 and Development side overcame an 18-0 half-time deficit to beat Ulster 21-18 in Thomond Park last Friday night.

Captain Colm Hogan led from example as the full-back, formerly at Glenstal Abbey and now with Dublin University, touched down twice in the second half with flanker Gavin Coombes also crossing.

Out-half Conor Fitzgerald kicked all three conversions to clinch a superb victory.

Two of the three changes made for tomorrow's night's title decider come in the half-backs as Young Munster out-half Alan Tynan replaces Fitzgerald at 10 and Exiles scrum-half James Lennon replaces Jack Stafford.

The other change comes in the pack as Cork Constitution tighthead prop Rory Burke comes in for UCC's Rob O'Donovan.

Nine Greencore Munster Rugby Academy players have been included in the squad - prop Burke, flanker Gavin Coombes, no. 8 John Foley, centre Calvin Nash and locks Fineen Wycherley and Sean O'Connor all start with prop Liam O'Connor, hooker Vincent O'Brien and winger/full-back Steve McMahon among the replacements.

A number of squad members are actually unbeaten in a Munster shirt having won the U18 Interprovincials in 2014 and the U19 title in 2015.

Leinster were 46-20 winners over Ulster two weeks, however, and pose a very formidable threat, especially with home advantage.

Very good win for Munster at the weekend , 35-17.

It was 12 all at half time , so a very strong finish by Munster..

They struggled a little in the set-piece in the 1st half , but Connacht visibly tired in the 2nd half and Munster pulled away scoring some really high quality tries..

The back 3 were all very impressive, Fullback counter-attacked really well all game and both wings scored excellent tries.

First interpro title for Munster at u18 clubs level in well over a decade.
Players back to clubs now as leagues starting up in next week or two. No provincial league fixtures up online for Munster or Leinster yet. Fixtures are available for Connacht and Ulster though....

Pretty sure Leinster teams will have next weekend for Friendlies at the very least from what I heard.

How did they decide who won it as both teams had won 3 lost 1?

no idea. if i were to guess it would be bonus points then tries scored or points difference.

Yes.. Schools panels came out last week.. Snr panels increased from 28 to 33 this season so lots of clubs are going to struggle hugely to field.. Expect lots of amalgamations etc. this week/ next week as the club's try to put together a squad..

Might get pushed back again due to this.. it was supposed to start next week, but was pushed back..

It wouldn't be bps first it would be head to head then points difference etc

Why have schools panels increased? Shame to see that. Lots of amalgamations is fine if all kids get to play rugby which is the most important thing

There's been a lot of U18 schools interpros stuff posted here sn very little/none in this seasons schools rugby thread so i thought best place for it was here.
Well considering they beat each other once I was already ruling that out

But surely posting it in the relevant thread is better??

Shame to see no fixtures yet for older age groups in Munster and its for the same reasons as it always is this time of year. Something really needs to be done to fix this ****e once and for all.

I'd class the relevant thread as the one people are talking about it in aka this one

The schools asked so the schools got, sadly.

Basically it adds 5 U17's to the panels for "development purposes".

Hugely weakens the clubs for no real Rugby benefit that I can see..

If that was the case then why not just discuss everything in a small number of threads???

Shame. There's always been plenty of u17s on panels anyway and shame it happens but clubs will get access to players if its wanted on player and clubs side enough. It mightn't be liked if its brought up in media like the parent who did so last season about son not getting released to play club rugby

    Definitely a shame..

They are now allowed a maximum of 5 U17's in the squad of 33 (also the 2 big schools in Cork are allowed have squads of 44!!! , God only knows why there..).

Most schools would have had 4 or 5 U17's on the squads of 28 anyway , so this is really just window dressing to increase the squad sizes.

They've always been allowed to add players due to injuries etc. so squad depth isn't an issue , this just takes away from Club rugby..

There will be at least 5/6 players on those squads that will never get anywhere near a 1st team match day squad and who will play Bowen shield all year , but now won't be released back to their clubs on the week-end as they would have been in previous years..

The Clubs and the players lose out here for no real gain to anyone that I can see.

It isn't as much a problem in Cork. They can have 44 as they will have enough games for their 2nds and senior 3rds. No Limerick schools really have 3rds as the guys are playing clubs.
It is window dressing but as long as all kids get to play rugby then I don't mind. I used to care more about getting them into clubs but its going on so long I don't care any more. If all who want to play rugby have the opportunity to then that's fine with me. Clubs will just have to combine. Schools shouldn't have that power but they do.

Does the same thing happen in munster, connacht and ulster where after the cup all the school players join clubs and they play friendlies or a mini league? Happens a bit in Dublin and seems to be a good way of getting people affiliated to a club

Does it happen in Dublin? At what age groups?

As there is youths and schools/youths competitions and schools players cant really play for Clubs in Leinster

In Munster there is more hassle between clubs and schools over eligibility of players particularly in Limerick/North Munster. Schools are meant to name 26-28 players and then the rest play club rugby
At end of season there is 2 cup competitions for clubs. 1 that some players who were in the 26-28 in the schools cup squads can play in and the other cup is for those kids who played club rugby all season

In Limerick/North Munster anyway they have the "Open" Cups at the end of the season, where all the schools players can come back to their clubs and play for them again..

Can't speak to the other regions.

Other regions don't have that as they don't have to deal with schools in same way. There's none in West Munster, 1 school in east that could cause issues and while that school affects numbers in a small number of club it doesn't cause it too much and then in the South Pres and Christians are only 2 schools in a bigger city than Limerick so it isn't really an issue there

Happens in most age groups all through school. I think the rule in leinster is there's a timeframe of a week or two that if you play a schools match you can't play youths until that timeframe has expired and vice versa or something like that anyway so come February or March all players can play youths. Also not sure on how official the leagues are I think they could just be clubs getting together and arranging fixtures and calling it a league but that's what happens here which means players feel affiliated with a club for after school

Its quite different. Depends on level of schools matches as well. And I don't think thats the rule at all about waiting a week and all cant play youths come end of schools.

Maybe its something like two weeks after your school is out of all competitions you can play youths then?

It isn't like that but the regs vary considerably depending on the level at which you are playing in school and what game/level you want to play in your club
