Here’s the idea: a gig played by Boards bands, for the rest of us Boardsies, with proceeds going directly to the Japanese Red Cross to help the victims of the earthquake/tsunami disaster.

So, just to make sure it was all feasible, I got some ducks in a row, made some calls, sent out some emails and here’s the story so far.

The Mercantile Live Music Venue (Dame Street) is booked for the 23rd April, the Saturday of a bank holiday weekend. Frobisher, the category mod of Music, has agreed to perform, as have Fitz’s band Susie Soho. Dav has agreed to provide his dulcet tones, not with his band unfortunately, but in MC capacity, which we’ll just have to make do with :p

The rest of the lineup is empty, ready and willing to be filled. If your band wants to play, post here with a link to your music. A small limited run of CDs will be also be produced to sell on the night. It’ll include tracks from the bands that are playing, plus some others, so if you can’t play the gig but would like to donate a track to this, then post here with a link to your music. Tracks must be ready by the 12th April to make it onto the CD.

Bands/tracks will be chosen by me, Beruthiel and Dav and our decisions are final (no pms of begging/complaints, please). If you’re an active contributor to Boards, then you will be given precedence, but the main concern here is quality. The CD is for charity – and the only way we sell the full run of CDs is if the CD is worth buying and the music on it is good. Same goes for the bands chosen to play on the night.

If you’re not in a band, but would like to help in other ways, then please do – e.g. graphic designers/artists: we’ll be needing some nice sigs and banners to pimp the gig all over Boards, posters for the venue, artwork for the CDs, etc.

We'll supply backline too: drumkit (DW), 2 guitar amps (Mesa Boogie & HiWatt) and a bass amp, so any other acts will just need to bring their guitars/pedals, snare/cymbals/kick pedal.
I'm also happy to take the tracks for the CD and do up a pre-master with matched levels before it goes for duplication.

Frobisher, the category mod of Music
Just a small (pedantic) point on this, he's not the category mod of Music, he's a category mod of Music, I'm one too :).

Hope it all goes well for you, I might even manage to drag myself up to the big shmoke to check it out.

    Some brilliant news:

Got a phone call from Bill O'Sullivan - the really really nice guy behind CDDuplication.ie in Cork.

He has very generously offered to sponsor the Boardstock CDs - covering the costs of duplication!!

This means that our only costs are the venue hire, which means that more money will be going directly to the Japanese Red Cross.

    So thank you Bill & CDDuplication.ie :D

Well well well, I suppose my band SDM should throw their hat in.

    Facespace page.

We self financed an album not too long ago, certainly don't mind giving one of the songs.

    This is a savage idea!

I play in Peaks, and we'd love to play!

We've got some stuff up on SoundCloud, YouTube and we've got a thread in the Band Promotion section too.

We've a Facebook page, link's in my sig, can't post a link here 'cause NUIM computers won't let me on Facebook :P

A deadly idea and we'd love to be involved :)

I do all our graphic design stuff myself (all the photos you might see in any of those links were done by me [except the event posters for Disorder and Forward/Slash]), I'd be happy to work on sigs/banners/sleeves/whatever else you want.

Ignore the blog post saying we broke up, we began jamming again at the start of Spring and are ready to gig again.

    We'd love to take part:)

We'd be up for this if you need more acts. Whistle.
Would also donate a track for the CD if required.

I did the artwork for our CD which was released last year, so I'd be willing to help out there if needed.

Also, +1 for Bill from cdduplication.ie, he sorted us out with our cds, a sound dude.

    Hi,

We'd love to get involved http://www.myspace.com/brazenlungs

If you're already full up with acts we'd still be able to offer you a track to use for the CD.

It's great to see People taking the initiative to help others.

Let us know if there's anything else we can do to help!

    Hi there!
This is a brilliant idea! I manage a new Dublin-based soulful indie-rock band and I'm interested in hearing more about this. We could participate if you still have free slots.

Below a sample performance (from an appereance in the G Request Show in Dec 2010)

See what you think and let me know please :-)

    Thanks a mil
