Basic road bike best suited to fast commute or maybe as cheap triathlon bike. If you want something for 3 or 4 hour weekend spins don't buy this, spend a bit more and get a lighter, higher quality bike with STI shifters.

Bike is in "As New" Condition, well looked after and maintained. Upgraded brakes, seatpost and stem. Spec. here - http://www.dawescycles.com/p-96-giro-200.aspx

    Size is 53cm and I find size OK (I'm 6'1") but it's probably best for someone 5'6" to 6'0". I'm in Dublin 18, 2 minutes from M50, J14.

Asking €220 but open to all offers.

    HI Paul,

I am looking for something like this but not sure 'this' is it. Basically what I need it something to get me started cycling again but without spending too much. We live near the old N7 and I have started to cycle along it recently as it is a lot quieter than it used to be.

Would this bike suit grand for spins of up to 20 miles etc a couple of times a week?

Hmmm. Maybe someone else would like to answer your question? I'll probably then disagree with them (whatever they say!).

Well, no-one else wants to voice an opinion! It's a difficult question to answer. Like anything you get what you pay for. For €100 more you'd get a similiar level bike with 2200 STI shifters, for €200 more better level bike with Sora or Tiagra shifters and so on ....

For 90 minute spins on flattish terrain this bike is fine, if you were doing steep hills I'd say try and get a lighter bike with compact gears.

For the record, I bought this bike (aged 46) having not cycled in 25 years. Initially I was doing 15 mile flattish spins out to Enniskerry (start of Wicklow mountains) a few times a week. Then I started doing longer and longer spins with bigger and bigger climbs. I was meeting up with people on fancy bikes and learning new words like carbon, ultegra, ksyrium. Less than 12 months after I started I bought my nice Planet X Carbon for £1000 and have never regretted it. The Dawes served it's purpose of showing me I enjoyed cycling and that I could now justify spending serious money on a serious bike.

Whatever bike you get, if you buy second-hand and look after it, you'll probably get your money back when you do (and you will:)) get the urge to upgrade.

I recently used (rented) the very same bike in Spain while on holiday, hills and flats, most days I did 30-40 km and not a bother at all, it’s a really nice bike, made me wonder about some of the shiny plastic that I bought during the booom!

    Hi again Paul,

You hit the nail on the head for what I am after. Right now I have a mountain bike and the damn thing is a ton weight or at least feels it at times. That bike is about 9 years old now and doesn't feel suited for what I want now. Oh and the bloody thing is stuck in the same couple of gears which makes it tough at times as well

As I said the old N7 is much quieter than it once was so all i want to do is spin in to Nenagh a couple of evenings a week and back home, round trip of 14 miles or so and maybe as far as LImerick and back whenever the hell I get up to that level of fitness.

All I want is something that makes it a bit easier to cycle those distances and I can see if I stick with it then I can upgrade when the time comes.

If it is ok with you I might pm you and we take it from there

    Mike

Hi Paul, the bike looks to be in good condition. How old is it? Is it possible to organize a meet up?

Bike was bought new in 2008 but hasn't been used since I upgraded to my new bike. Has always been kept indoors and is in top condition. I work from home so bike can be viewed pretty much anytime. Mike has pm'ed me re viewing it tomorrow but no definite arrangements made as yet. I'll update the thread if that is happening, I think that is OK wrt forum rules?

Mike has agreed to purchase this for €200. Thanks, Mike. I'm going to give him a few days to check it out and once he's happy with it I'll mark as sold. Thanks also to anyone else who was interested.
