Doing the leaving cert as an adult?

    Hello,
I'v just turned 20 and have not finished my Leaving Cert exam. I left school when I was 17 and it's something I highly regret. I'v been looking into places that would allow me to do the course in one year. The only place I'v found that allows me to do this would be Institute of Education but at 7,000 euro a year I don't think i'l be able to afford it.

Is there anywhere else is Dublin that finishes the course in a year?

And if not where else could I look? :)

    Regards,
    Mark

Talk to your local VEC - for Dublin City it's CDVEC - list of their adult education officers here: http://www.cdvec.ie/uploads/file/Programmes%20-%20Adult%20Education%20Officers.pdf(.pdf file) or call into any of their schools/colleges.

They specialise in adult education and have staff employed purely to deal with adult and second chance learners.

Well you could probably teach yourself the leaving cert at home....its fairly easy just get the exam papers and learn them off, and then just sit the exam...

Except for a number of subjects you need to have a supervising teacher to sign off on projects. For someone out of education a while, contacting an Adult Education officer is the way to do it.

I was thinking of doing this but I wasn't to sure about it. It's going to be me and a friend repeating and we were going to go to the library a few hours a day during the summer to get a head start.
I was thinking of doing English, Maths, Irish, French, Music and Business but wouldn't be to sure if it was doable

I know a few people who did it on their own but it seems a bit easier to do with the help of an education officer.

Unbelievably you've just turned 20, I am turning 19 and am sitting the LC this year - I knew I was old for my year, but now, I may as well class myself as an adult learner..!

Back to your question, aside from the 'tute - many other grind schools do the course in a year and for half the amount. I'm pretty sure however that there's an enormous amount of grants available - here's a link to the Citizens Info page on returning to eduction as an adult:

    hi

just came across this...I've applied for the adult L.C course in coll of comm this year,I've an interview soon. Was wondering if you could tell me what to expect for the interview? does it matter that I did the L.C a few years ago (wasn't great)...I want to do it now to get into UCC, is the adult course good do you think? Be much appreciated if you could give me any advice :) Thanks
