    Hi Foodies,

I'm going to try a recipe this evening for Thai noodles, which calls for Snow Peas.

Dunnes Cornelscourt don't have them, and neither does Superquinn Knocklyon.

    Two questions:

    1. Does anyone know where I can buy snow peas in South Dublin?

    2. If not, would sugar-snap peas or mange-tout be good substitutes?

Oh, if you're interested, I got the recipe from this person's blog:

    http://food-forthought.blogspot.com/2005/12/ring-out-old-thai-noodles.html

I'm not affiliated with that blog, so don't accuse me of spamming!

    Thanks,

    FS

Aren't Snow Peas and Mange-tout the same thing?

They are - this is copied from a longer piece on peas in wikipedia:

Other variations of P. sativum include:

Pisum sativum var. macrocarpon is commonly known as the snow pea

Pisum sativum var. macrocarpon ser. cv. is known as the sugar or snap pea

Both of these are eaten whole before the pod reaches maturity and are hence also known as mange-tout, French for "eat all". The snow pea pod is eaten flat, while in sugar/snap peas, the pod becomes cylindrical but is eaten while still crisp, before the seeds inside develop.

Thought so ... I also seem to remember seeing them called Snow Peas mainly on US websites like that blog the OP posted a link to.

Ah, I see. That solves my problem - I've already got mange tout at home, the flat one.

Thanks for the replies and the info!
