wait and see if they fixed or even added proper ai. 2010 is good if your into time trialing or demolition derby online but single player is unplayable.

Yeah the bugs are a pain. Wish they'd add more tracks too rather than just the circuits for that season.

    Safty Car Confirmed!!

Looks like it is going to be very good. Safety Car also confirmed, which should be a nice touch. AI at the harder levels seems to be far more realistic than last year.

    Its looking quite well indeed.

Yawn ! F1 2010 was a pile of crap, the game had an endless list if issues, they promised extensive patching for months,it never came but they promised it over and over.
Eventually when people stopped expecting patches they announce a new game, FFS fix the other one first morons.
Anything that has Anthony Davidson crap talking it up is usually exactly that - crap talking.

F1 2010 crap?? I played 2 seasons and can tell the best racing game ever, at least what comes to car handling and idea of racing weekends, time trial is great etc. I also didn't experience any bugs.. playing on PC.

AI at the Legend level is very good, puts you some challenge BUT it still could be harder on dry tracks.

Oh yea just need to download better cockpit camera for more realistic view

Well I m not hard core player to know other games and all good stuff there and to be able to compare to F1 2010 if it's missing some "awesome" feature but handling and sense of speed are the most important in driving and I think 2010 is all about that, also engine noise!

Last time I played proper F1 game was F1 2000 so yes I was waiting "few" years for smthg like 2010.

i find it hard to believe you didn't experience any bugs. the handling seems good because its forgiving and fairly unrealistic. the proof is in the fact that its quicker to just run with the lowest downforce setting on every track.

i still think its a good game but i prefer time trial to career mode anyway.

Time trial is the best mode alright but I seriously didn't experience any bugs.

The only bugs I experienced is with my racing engineer who seems talking rubbish from time to time but that's not smthg affecting actual driving thrill.

IF you run full sim mode, IT IS HARD racing seriously. You don't win easily if at all until you progress to middle pack teams.
Tires are at their best just for few laps where you can dominate a bit but then you have to defend a lot few laps before going to change them.

Handling is fantastic.. but Im using keyboard so I don't know about racing wheels. It took me half a season to learn throttle "pumping" thru the corners to avoid spinning out without traction control.

Well I started to play 2-3 months ago so maybe they fixed major bugs already since the game came out (end of last year?).
E.g. I re-installed Windows, and F1 then, few days ago and took good 15min updatings and rebootings before could start the game.

Well the dev's have comfirmed that they've reworked the handling a bit, so fingers crossed. It was my major ebb with F1 2010. That and tyre wear. And scripted AI. And wet weather conditions. And career mode.

I read that Game in the UK are paying £20 for F1 2010 trade-ins at the moment. But i dont know if that will apply to Game in Ireland as well.

Would be a handy discount when trading up to the new game

Have they at least introduced telemetry?

I cannot fathom how any one could release an F1 game that didn't give telemetry, there's little point in giving me full race weekends if I can't see the telemetry to make it worth my while.

    Is that a joke?

So I've been playing this all evening. Started my career with Lotus but of course its god damn slow. Have all assists off and AI on highest difficulty. First thing I notice is the massive improvement in handling. The car is slow through the corners though. I decide to change over to Williams and start career again, just to see if cars control differently. And by god they do.

I spent all three practice sessions trying to eliminate the oversteer in my car, tweaking everything I can. The car is massively fast and exceptional out of corners compared to the Lotus, but its back-end is just so terrible I can't even get a good drive out of the corners, spent the first 2 practice sessions in Melbourne doing mid 1:28's with some sliding off track. I finally nailed in P3 with a good balance of wing adjustment (it made the car slower but I had to get the car around the corners faster :P)

Q1 came and I posted a time that put me into 11th at the dying moments, before I spun again from trying to hard in the first sector. Of course, I get black flagged immediately, even though I had the car pointed in the right direction. No blue flags or anything. 10 place grid penalty immediately. Very annoying.

The cars are just as slow in the first few corners as in F1 2010 but it seems they're slightly more advanced, trying to block you off from taking the inside line on the second corner. Ended up finishing 15th after starting 21st. The car slid around a lot.

What I do like about F1 2011 is the DRS and Kers system though. It's very realistic and you can hear an extra 'squeal' in the air as you activate DRS. Also in advanced setup you can see the 8 assigned engines for the year, and what condition they're in as the season progresses, as well as change the fuel consumption, either pre-race or during the race.

I haven't looked at multi-player yet but I'm impressed so far with single player.

I spoke to a few lads ive simraced with for many a year and they say its improved on last year [wouldnt be hard tbh] but its not a sim nor is it trying to be, if it was it simply wouldnt appeal to the masses.
Im hearing the game does a good job at immersing the player in the F1 world without having cutting edge physics the cars are enjoyable enough to race.

Sounds good to me, something semi sim like is what im after, ill play iracing ,rfactor gtr etc if i want more realism :)

Cherry i didnt get to ask the guys what the sounds were like, i found them terribly annoying in last years game.
Videos ive seen sound a lot better but can be hard to judge for sure, also does each car have a different engine note?

Did you unlock it on steam with an American ip?
    I did last year :P

How does that work? Surely they would know you have an EU account?

A quick google found this .

If you buy it on steam you can connect to steam via a virtual private network with a US ip address, which will allow you to play the game before the EU release.

    If you do this.

    1. Buy game with your normal IP on steam as you would any other game.
    2. Preload the game ready for friday.
    3. log into steam with a US ip (like USAIP or securitykiss tunnel etc)
    4. press play and let it decrypt, you might want to set steam to offline mode after this
    5. enjoy before friday.

Thats what i did last year, i cant remember what software i used but it worked a charm,i then only used steam in offline mode while playing to avoid hassle.
Apparently its against valves rules but ive yet to hear of anyone getting grief about it.
Ive heard some people log in with russian ip to buy games cheaper, personally i wouldnt try this, i reckon valve would ban people for that.

PS3 users thinking of buying, FYI
Reading on a few forums simracing forums the PS3 version is suffering major framerate issues and poor track graphics.
People saying its unplayable at times, one guy over on nogrip saying his framerate drops to single digits fps at times LOL por consoles, showing their age for far too long now.

anyone know if any stores will be selling it this evening?
    thanks

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 17,134 Mod ✭✭✭✭cherryghost

I bought it online cully over direct2drive (america website with an American account + proxy :P)

It's definitely less arcadey than last years game. Last year's driving and AI was very 'wooden', its a lot better this year. I spent a lot of corners fighting the back end of my car even with my best setup. In F1 2010 I could throw in any setup and bang in hot laps without worrying about the car stepping out

As for engine noises there's only a slight differentiation in the cars I've driven so far. Gonna test the Renault out after work though :P

The official codemasters forum is scattered with some complaints regarding framerate issues on the PS3.
