Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hi i read on one of the posts last week a list of bad practices of satellite installers. one was using scew on F connectors. I myself have only done a couple for friends and family. Are compression type F connectors the standard for pro installs?

Yes they are but theres really nothing wrong with a screw type once its put on correctly and is weather proofed.

The main problem with screw-on connectors is that people choose the wrong size for the cable. There are even some suppliers that insist "one size fits all". Not true. A plug designed for RG6 (aluminium foil) will be way too tight for WF100 cable.

Most shops sell the skinny hole for the RG59, that doesn't fit even RG6.

Very true, Watty. So you have a choice of removing the outer sheath and having a loose fit or of having it so tight that the cable is crushed. Neither is desirable if you want to pass all frequencies. :-|

The inner doesn't fit the inner hole either.

I use Screw on Connectors (correctly Waterproofed) but always carry plenty of each of the 4 sizes i have found!! so can always make a tight fit!!

There is nothing wrong with using F connectors when the right ones are used, and it also depends on the manufacturer of them. Some are useless as they break easily.

I dont use Snap on connectors as they are two expensive as I used them in Chorus for years I have seen them fail more times than anything so they are not worth the price...
