Over the last two or so years I have noticed a lot of cars with Northern Ireland and UK plates around Dundalk. Yes I know Dundalk is very close to the border but its like every 10th car has a yellow plate never mind that a lot of them are British mainland plates. Are these all imports that havent been registered yet? I thought you couldnt get insurance on a foreign registered car, so are these people driving around with no insurance?

You can get insured on a foreign reg car for a period of time, it all depends on the T&C's from the particular insurance company.

They may also be using a northern address, meaning they can insure the car for as long as they like. (annually)

I also noticed that we have a lot of Bureau de Change in Dundalk . Yes I know Dundalk is very close to the border but it's like we have too many . Are these people walking around with money . I guess we should ban people with yellow plates from entering our Casino , and buying up our Lotto tickets and our petrol and the cheek of it , a lot of them are working in Dundalk .

Just as many southern cars in Newry too. Travel the M1 any day and you'll actually see many northern cars travelling south.

There are a good few foreign plates residing at ROI addresses near where I am.

It does not bother me but I am always amazed at how long some seem to have gotten away with it so to speak.

I doubt it. Most likely people living in the north.

You have 7 days to VRT an imported car and C&E have clamped down on this a lot in the last few years. I've seen several major checkpoints in Drogheda and on the N2 in the last 12 months. Both times with several Northern/English cars seized.
