Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I think he makes a substantial bit of money gambling. Is the only person I saw that tipped Ireland to beat England in cricket although if he was betting like that on an ongoing basis would be smashed pretty quickly. Hope he made a lot on that though

It's not proper English on a PS station.

If I'm not mistaken he was commentating for Sky Sports on last nights game.

He's the worst pundit around, horribly negative and bitter, never has anything good to say. His commentary is just a stream of "whatty shoulda done"

I'm referring to a radio interview on RTE for that one. Plus other events on RTE

    Jaysus Flutt!
They say that St. Etienne is Stella Artois in disguise. No wonder you'd be given to violent outbursts when tenses are being mangled!

He is also a victim of the 'I done it' syndrome. I done my homework. I done well in school. I done a good job on the radio today.

Great player and is somehow taller than George Hamilton

Maybe so, but I think it's worth while to highlight the shortcomings of people who make their living speaking and commenting on the airwaves.

The listeners and viewers deserve better than that surely.

Ray Houghton is not a public orator - he is employed to commentate and analyse from the perspective of a former pro footballer.

99.99% of ex pros in the UK of Ray’s age were the product of a working class production line system. Educational attainment was not a priority. People would be suspicious if you didn’t say things like “we got done second half”. Graham Le Saux bucked the trend - read the Guardian, had no discernable accent and never mixed up his tenses– look at the grief he got from David Batty/ Robbie Fowler – and how little sympathy he got from the media and football establishment. The way Ray and the rest of the ex players mangle grammar in commentary is a sort of defence mechanism they picked up as young players and can’t shake off now that they have retired to punditry

You have some good points there in fairness, not original, but good.

It's a bad scene when you have to speak incorrectly to be accepted, bad scene indeed.

And may I just say what a privilege it is to be patronised by a man of your rank and station.
