    Tuesday 28th February
    2miles in 18:58 pace 9:27
Thank god it was only 2 miles i had to do. Home from work early and got into bed but forced myself out of it to go do the 2 miles. Sore throat on sunday and monday but managed to kill that with lots of difflam. But now a bit bunged up in the nose and head  I never get sick. It really is nothing but my breathing was very laboured for the 2miles. Decided to go to yoga and sweat it out of me... i would say i was the most annoying person there tonight with my snorting, sniffling and heavy breathing... but you know what i feel less bunged up now. lemsip and bed now and will be all better by tomorrow :)

Dont be going running when you are sick!!!! It will send it around your body like wildfire. I know its rich advice coming from me but you've banked the miles now so dont take any chances. Get to bed NOW

Nules has decided to listen to our advice and is not running today - instead a rest day on the cards. Wonders will never cease :p

Must alert Dublin Airport Air Traffic Control that pigs will be flying by shortly...

The fact you slept for two hrs goes to show the body was tired trying to fight something off. Good on ya being sensible. You'll be fighting fit come Sunday!

If you want to know how to train to run slower send me a pm ;) Shocking bad mood and shaz got the brunt of it coming home in the car... sorry about that :o I just lost it at mile 4. Legs dead. I am going to stick with the yoga... at least i am improving at that :o

Conditions were very tough out there, the wind, the hailstones, the cold.
Every race I run I question my sanity, races hurt, I can't say I've ever enjoyed one.
Maybe take a break from races for a while and just run for the joy of running (oh, and the company!:))

Oh such wise advice K - Nules does this sound familiar ;)

Everybody has their off days and rubbish races, today unfort was one of those. You are being way too hard on yourself and onwards and upwards.

BTW you left out the part where you drove through potholes on purpose to scald me with the coffee :D. Seriously ta for the lift and "good" company :p

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,166 ✭✭✭red face dave

No harm Nules plenty more races. Take a few days off and chill out. Have a big glass of wine and forget about it.

Its only a race. Bad day at the races

You said it yourself Nules Will give it my best shot anyway smile.gif And sure there is always another half around the corner wink.gif

Not too worry, things didnt go my way either Nules, but chin up and move on to the next one.

Welcome to my world! This is me for every race... get used to it, glad I'm not the only one, but I can guarantee, come the next couple of days and you first of all feel guilty for not running, then start go go into cold turkey for not running, then head out for a little run to stop the guilty voices in your head and realise that you enjoy running again, you'll be back on track again.

You had more opportunities to back out and stop then you could shake a stick at, but you didnt... thats the importantt key Nules, ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,883 ✭✭✭Younganne

Ah Nules, im really disappointed for you and i know you said theres always another race but i feel your disappointment & frustration.

You will eventually get your sub 2 but it just wasn't meant to be today. You still ran a half marathon in a great time and kept going to the end even though you knew your sub 2 was gone and you had cramps from mile 4...fair play for not throwing in the towel.

Remember you were also under the weather this week...head up, few days off and then back to your plan.

I'm really disappointed i didn't manage to see you today, but we will catch up again soon. :)

I think I have felt like that after nearly every race I've ever done :o I think 2.06 is great!
Sounds like a tough one though. Plenty more on the calendar....;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,551 ✭✭✭chinguetti

You'll get it but it may take some time. Have a think about what went wrong and anything that you can change, do. If you're not well beforehand, its in the lap of the Gods but the sub 2 is there, it may take a bit of time but will be worth it in the end.

Chin up Nules, you'll do it next time!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,672 ✭✭✭racheljev

Sorry to hear it didn't go to plan, sub2 is there for you on a better day. Weather was crap and feeling crap obviously didn't help. At least there's a time after your name - even if you're not happy with it - and not a DNF. Well done for sticking with it and finishing. It's a cliche, but there's always next time...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,682 ✭✭✭pistol_75

Don't worry about it Nules. Very hard to run a race after being sick during the week.

    Next time :)

    Nules;

Dont give up. Look at it as learning curve and what doesnt kill you makes you stronger.

I mean i blew up badly in the dublin marathon, well the whole month of the marathon after training a full 6 months for.

I pulled out at half way was running 8.30 min miles well below my best and legs were dead, same in Donadea 10k, just something we come back stronger from.

Back running now and loving it all over again!!

Sorry to read your race didn't go to plan, but don't loose heart. Remember that you love to run, don't let yesterday cloud that ;)

Thank you all so much for your lovely messages... i really want to reply to each one individually but would take me all day :). this is what i love about boards the encouragement and the sound advice and the stories of others having similar crappy days.
Anyway i am back with a plan or rather a non-plan. So i have decided to take the rest of this week off from running and run at the weekend if i feel like it. So the plan is to run when i feel like it and for as long as i feel like... leave the watch at home ok well maybe that's taken it a bit far... i will pop it into my pocket I will do that for the next week or two. I haven't lost my love of running.... as i realised why i run, when i ate my body weight in chocolate on sunday :o
What went wrong sunday. Maybe a couple of things... i had done 4 classes of yoga, tuesday-friday and while it is great for stretching there was alot of leg exercises in thursday and fridays class. My legs felt sluggish on saturday when i did my mile jog. First mile was done in 8:40 too fast  By mile 4 i was ready to quit.... i honestly don't know how i kept going. I had to take 3 walk breaks which killed me. Hundreds of people were passing me and i really wanted to cry.... but then i thought i have two good legs that work and a set of lungs someone very close to me would do anything to have... so i have to cop on. My training went well but i have said this before i train better than i race. I hate races I really do. I love the half marathon distance so i will keep at it. I am just going to go with the flow for the next week or two. I am glad of my decision as i sit looking out at that poxy weather :D
Onwards and upwards and here is to the next race whenever that may be ;)
    Again thanks a mil guys

enjoy the few days off and keep away from the chocolate!!!!!:D

love the idea of heading out without the watch , i find that can be very liberating at times and much needed!!

Hi Nules. I felt exactly the same as you last Sunday - was wondering what I was at at my age competing against myself and feeling disappointed, wasting time when I could have been having the craic with the kids etc.... Just back at the desk after a glorious 6 miles in the park and I remember why I'm doing it

Get back out there as soon as you can - you'll love it !

Kit do you run in the Phoenix park at lunch...if so i must meet you...i did a short 3.7 today just to test out the leg..... out North road ana back...were you in that area??
