"Love is something invented by guys like us to sell nylons".

    It's lust.

You just reminded me of something for the "stuff i am sick of seeing on boards thread". :D

I used to believe in love at first sight...... When I was 16 and also believed I was in love with fred durst ( yes I'm well aware of my bad taste  ) lust at first sight definitely exists..... Love comes from getting to know somebody

Interest at first sight surely (interest that goes beyond lust - had that myself).

Real love at first site - not really.

    Yeah, I'd agree with this.

Really, must be a female thing. It wasn't until I saw my daughter smiling that I started to love her. It would be the same with a few of the lads I know with babies.

Lots of mothers don't feel the love straight away either, it just doesn't tend to be spoken of. ;)

    :D:D:D Love it!

As always, Charlie Brooker explains it best (and also how it's TV's fault): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjF932SFoCc

Ah yes, Charlie. Now THERE'S someone I love despite having never met him. :D

I compliment people I dont know/will probs never see again at work if they're wearing lovely shoes/whatever
    :o

Me too, if a girl stands next to me at the traffic lights or wherever and I like something she's wearing, I'll compliment her on it. Sure, why not?

Let me guess?? You’re a girl????
Yeah, you got me! I’m sick with Envy. I really wish I could lose all control of myself and chase someone like you down the street. Forget the poster, you sound just great!! Nope haven’t had the odd knock back and I’d have no problem saying YES, If I did!
And judging by your 100% remark, I’d say you’ve already found your prince charming, complete with gravely drive, 4 x 4, two gorgeous kids and a Labrador, or as people like you call them “a Lab”!!

    Ooh, raw nerve chief?
Don't worry, it stings for a bit but there'll be other women!
Prince charming, gravel drive, 4x4, "lab" - all wrong - i do have the 2 gorgeous kids though - i got them cos i had the bottle to talk to women - you know, just like you wish you did!

Are you the guy mentioned in the OP, by any chance? :P

Not guilty, i'm actually probably the least romantic bloke you could meet - but i do believe in love at first sight. Who knows maybe you would to - if you seen me ;) Ha

    that is very true too,

it was just in my own personal case i was referring to it, and anyway it was her dad who held her for the first time in her life so by the time i first saw her she was clean, cute and cuddly it really was love at first sight for me.

There is an awful lot of ego beginning to surface on this thread.

No I don't believe that, it's definitely lust, I dont think you can really love someone unless you are with them coz it's a different kind of relationship.

I don't believe in "Love at first sight" some people just can't distinguish the difference between love and lust ..

Love is when my heart starts soaring.

Lust is when my penis achieves an erect state.

It's not that hard to tell the difference.

Love should be both, lust is just the second part

Jaw-dropping sexual attraction, sure. Love, I don't think so. The two aren't mutually exclusive though right?

I can count on the fingers of one hand (and still have some spare) how many times I've seen a guy who 'wows' me and absolutely takes my breath away and based on that hell yeah, I'd love to fall in love with them.

Agreed with those who say love at first sight is lust at first sight, and said lust tricks us into thinking it was love at first sight if we do fall in love with the person.

Because we could feel the very same way about them on first meeting, but then end up not getting on with them one bit...

    Hmmm....
ultimately i think i do believe in love at first sight. Which surprises even cynical me. Hmmmm i should give background to this thou - my basic theory on attraction/love etc etc is that people come in different 'flavours' for want of a better word. And certain flavours match up well and certain others don't. Now I firmly believe anyone can fall in love with anyone.....given enough time, patience, and lack of an alternative. But I also think that every now and then you just so happen to meet someone of the right 'flavour' for you and when you do you instinctively know it and can fall in love at first sight. But I am a bit of a determinist (I know so middle ages right ?)

Alls I can say is that this metaphysical rubbish is the closest theory I've ever heard to fit my actual experience.
