Seen a thread on this on another forum, was a good laugh for embarassing predictions.

I'll start off with one that will be hard to beat.

After watching a few pre-season games before the 2007/08 season kicked off I said to a friend that Andriy Voronin would make just as big of an impact, if not a bigger one, than Fernando Torres

Also thought Matejza Kezman was going to be a huge success with Chelsea.

    :o

I rested a lot of faith in Tosic making it at United :(

I thought Blackburn were going to dominate English football for the next 5 years after they won the league in '95 :o

Despite the fact he didn't come close to making it at United I still think they made like a 1 million quid profit on him when he was sold

I thought Figo would stay at Barca.

I thought Quaresma was going to be head and shoulders better than Cristiano.

I thought Pep was going to struggle in his first few seasons at the club.

I thought Messi would never really be that productive in front of goal (always had faith in him becoming one of the greatest ever though)

Thought Joe Cole would have made a decent impact when joining Liverpool.

He made a impact alright, into the f**king ground and hard.

His 4 goals at Anfield still give me nightmares. His one great game in England and it came against us ffs

Never thought Rooney would treat United like he did over the contract situation until I heard Fergie's press conference.

Thought the tabloids were just trying to stir it up. How wrong I was... :o

I though Luke Chadwick was going to be a solid player for Man Utd. Could play on both wings and behind the front two.
    Giggs and Scholes combined!
Ok, not on that class but I was sure he would be a good squad player.

Also, the trash media put him on a lot of top ten ugly players lists which is pure bollox.
I mean, here he is at Norwich

Thought Sinama-Pongolle and Le Tallec would be mainstays of Liverpool for many glorious years!

Thought Espen Baardsen was going to be a world class keeper and join one of europe's big clubs.

Thought the John Barnes/Kenny Dalglish combo at Celtic would work!

He must have went into the surgery and asked if he could look like H from Steps.

I thought Reyes was going to be our #1 striker for years to come.

I thought that by this season Vela would have nailed down a place in the first team.

I predicted that when Newcastle signed Oba Martins, they would challenege for the title and would def finish in the top 4.

It cost me €20e also with a friend also. :(

I wanted Ronaldo shipped out of Utd in summer 06. With the World Cup spat with Rooney, and his show pony antics against Benfica when knocked out in CL that year. I remember Giggs being subbed and you could lip read him saying to Fergie "What about that **** on the other wing??!"

Anyway, following few seasons he certainly walked the walk, and I'm glad I was wrong :)

Also, I thought Liam Miller might be the new Keano :pac: I think it was just a Cork thing

I thought Robin van Persie wasnt made of glass.

I thought Lupoli would be a 20 goal a season striker for Arsenal after seeing him play some youth team games for Italy and hearing good things from Italian mates. He couldn't even cut it at Palace in the end:o

Thought (hoped) that Alex Ferguson would retire 5 years ago.

I thought Boselli would do well at Wigan and thought Wigan would be easily midtable this season.

    - Fergie would retire years ago.
    - Michael Owen would beat the England goalscoring record.
    - Torres was happy for the last couple of months before he left.
    - José would beat Barca at the Nou Camp earlier this season.
    - Kenny Dalglish was a bad idea.
    - Roy Keane would have a 'big' job by now.
    - Stevie G would have left years ago.
    - Ireland would win the World Cup in 1990 (i was 8 though, so forgive me!)

    ...i'm sure there's loads more.

    good thread btw.

I thought Darren Fletcher had no future at Utd.I think his haul of medals disproves me.

I'd grow old watching Torres set records at Liverpool

    I thought:
    - That Man Uniteds' dominance of the game in England would be over at this stage - that the debt they had taken on would cripple them.
    - That Liverpool would be in a new stadium by now.
    - That Arsenal would be dominating the PL.
    - That Rooney would have won world player of the year.
    - That Stephen Ireland would be a key player for Ireland at this stage.

I often get preseason predictions wildly wrong and often predict transfers to be a great piece of business and turn out to be turgid afterwards - Hargreaves to United, Cole to Liverpool, Kezman to Chelsea, Veron to United just a few.

I thought Scolari was going to be a huge success at Chelsea.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 21,296 ✭✭✭✭gimmick

That an LOI team would have qualified for the CL group stages by now.

That Igor Biscan would be a dominant midfielder for Liverpool for a decade.

Robbie Fowler would be Englands all time top goal scorer.

Ireland were a decent side in the latter half of 2009.

I thought Mario Gomez was pants

When Ronaldo and Rooney had the world cup incident, i thought United should pick Rooney over Ronaldo :pac:

I predict Inter Milan to win the champions league every year. Last year i said they had no chance :D

That reminds me - I predicted Pauleta to be top scorer at Euro 2004!!!

Thought Joe Cole was going to win player of the year and that Torres would grow old in a Liverpool shirt.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,187 ✭✭✭Sappy404

I thought in in 09/10 Liverpool would push for the title.

I thought the Torres to Chelsea stuff during the World Cup was completely fabricated.

I laughed when I heard Spurs were rumoured to be bidding £22m for Andy Carroll. I assumed it was false as nobody would pay that much for him.

I thought Michael Owen should jump at the chance to join Hull last year.

I thought Robbie Keane would be a Liverpool mainstay and was the perfect partner for Torres.

    Ditto Joe Cole.

When listening to the last few mins of Man Utd v Villa on the radio 2 seasons ago, I thought Macheda had scored the winner for Villa, as I didn't know who he was and so assumed he was a Villa player. If only...

And I wanted Utd to sign Cole-we dodged a bullet there.

I described (Arsenal's) Denilson as potentially being "Alonso with balls".

    I win.

I thought (feared) they would as well. That United team was absolutely sensational.

Just er, Barca are rather good too!

I thought Brazil would stroll there way to the 2006 World Cup.

I thought Boro were going to push United for the tittle in the 96/97 season.

Arsenal fan. I was always adamant that Messi was overrated, too small, too easy to shake off, good in flashes but not consistent enough, and benefitted from playing in an attacking role for the best club team of this generation.

April 6th 2010, 20 minutes gone at the Nou Camp, Nicklas Bendtner has just put us one nil up, we are leading the tie over both legs, something which seemed impossible after the first half of the first leg. I was feeling pretty damn happy!

Then its fair to say that Lionel Messi proved me to be VERY wrong about him...

A small one but always remember it for some reason, after watching Spurs beat Roma 5-0 in pre-season '08, i said they'd win the league, finished 8, 40 points off the top spot.
