I have a large book collection I need to sell as new baby coming and no room for it! Charlie Byrnes have taken some off my hands but they will only give me credit, which doesn't really solve my space problem. Is there anywhere else I can go? Does anywhere like Bell Book and Candle exist anymore? Or is there somewhere further afield you can recommend? It quite a specialist collection of children's books. Would appreciate any advice. Thank you.

Are you looking for money or just to make space, because there are plenty of charity stores that wll take them, or even consider ringing a few of the mother and toddler groups in the city (Ballybane/Ballinafoyle for example) who might be delighted to have such resources as funding has been cut in so many places? Or the libraries may welcome them as well if they are in good nick..

Book Bell and Candle isn't open anymore? I didn't realise!

Thanks, I have already given about 500 books to schools and a charity shop. The remaining books I would like to sell as I spent a lot of money on them over the years!

    www.adverts.ie
    Photos and a pricepoint helps.

If some of your books are special, consider Ebay as well.

I remember when I was getting rid of books a few years back, the secondhand shops in town gave woeful quotes. Ended up giving them away.

A plan 'B' might be to take the Charlie Byrnes credit, take it in gift vouchers, and use it for birthday and Christmas presents, that you'd have to spend dosh on anyway.

Generally credit is a far better deal than selling, and Charlie and the lads have always given me a fair amount imo.

Thanks for your suggestions. DIdn't know BB&C was still open. Charlie Byrne's have been very fair with their credit anyway, but I have enough to keep me in books and birthday presents for a while now!

I will give Ebay a try first then try some of the other suggestions. Thanks again for your help.

Don't forget Amazon too, you could get rid of a few of them on that!

Might they take them off you up in Kenny's warehouse? If they're "good" books..

If they are children's books would you not keep them for your new baby? Im sure as it grows older it will appreciate the old books. I know i did when my mam and dad kept old books for me. :)

Amazon would be great, but you have to have a UK bank account to set up as an Amazon seller.

Its shame to sell any books. You get nothing for them. Its better to keep them for children - even hidden in boxes somewhere.

I sold a number of books to Dublin bookshop Cathach Books a few months ago. They were all Irish first editions but the shop does carry other lines as well. Might be worth giving them a bell or dropping them an email?
