If you don't have an SSD then you want to get a better hard drive. Eco/Green hard drives are slower and are generally used for storage of photos/music/video as opposed to your OS + Games/Programs. Look up the Spinpoint F3 1TB for a cheap fast drive.

Only other thing I would change with that build is the PSU. I'd go with this one instead:

A few things to think about:

If you're planning on adding another 6950, you should get a PSU with higher wattage from a more reputable manufacturer.

Rather then that slower 5900rpm 2TB drive, you could get 2 x 7200rpm 1TB samsungs for not much more and run them in raid 0 for a nice speed boost.

I've heard P67 may have issues with 1.65V ram, this would be a better choice imo

Case is personal preference, but this has more internal space and good cooling for a few extra €€€s

As for other things to get, a CPU cooler so you can overclock and get the most out of the 2500k

Decondo and SeyeM: Thank ye both for you're replies.

I went for the PSU that Decondo recommended as it seems pretty good value price wise.

and I added a few of Seyem's gear too so here's where I'm at

    Intel Core i5-2500K Box, LGA1155

    MSI R6950-2PM2D2GD5, 2GB, PCI-Express

    BenQ G2420HDBE

    MSI P67A-GD55 (B3), Intel P67, ATX, DDR3

    Samsung SH-223C bare schwarz SATA

    4GB-Kit Kingston HyperX blu. PC3-10667U CL9

    Corsair A70 (Sockel AM2/AM2+/AM3/775/1156/1366)

    Cooler Master HAF Mini 922M

    Samsung SpinPoint F3 1000GB, SATA II (HD103SJ)

    Super-Flower Amazon 80Plus 800W

This is all coming in at €1,030 - which is actually pretty impressive I think.

I have a question regarding noise. My last build a few years back was a right bull and tbh it caused a bit of hassle, How is this looking regarding noise levels???

And how about the benefits of these SSD's? Very expensive, do the benefits outweigh the cost? Also is it possible to run a SSD and a standard SATA HHD together?

It depends what sort of machine you had. Without a baseline we can't really say. I know for a fact that those Samsung's are the quietest drives you'll find anywhere - I have four myself. Usually the noisiest parts of a build are the HDDs, PSU, GPU cooler and CPU cooler. Your HDDs are dead quiet, dunno about Super Flower, never used them. Your GPU isn't too bad, and your CPU is definitely on the quieter end. It won't be silent, but it shouldn't be anywhere near a hairdryer either.

Bottom line: VERY roughly, I'd say you're looking at a 4-5/10. 1 being silent, 10 being jet engine type.

As regards HDDs: Yes, you can! That's what most people do in fact, myself included. I have a 32GB SSD for my OS, two 1TBs for my apps and games, and a backup, and two 5400RPM 2TBs for my music and movies and the like, as well as a backup. They all play fine together.

What I don't know - and I'd love an answer to this actually - is if you can run a non-RAIDed SSD with a HDD RAID setup on the same controller.

There are a couple of things you'll have to do slightly differently if you get an SSD though. Nothing huge, just ticking a few boxes and changing a couple of settings, to make sure you get the most from your SSD.

Thanks for the replies and help gents

Below is what I've almost decided on

    2ezqqsx.png

Will be picking up an SSD in the near future but not at the moment, I gotta make cuts somewhere ya know?? :(

I got a good fan for the CPU of a mate yesterday as well as a case so I've no need for them. The case I went for is a Thermaltake Armor+. The thing is huge. Didnt realize until I got it home. But it looks the part and appears to suit my needs so how bad.

What do ye think, will it be able to play some tough tasking games??

why the expensive Mobo and 800W PSU?

    what heatsink/fan did you get?

Thanks very much for the reply,

I'll be getting a second graphics card in the not so distant future (would love to get everything in one go but the funds aren't available to do that) So figured I would be better off getting a high powered PSU and a suitable motherboard.

    I got a Corsair A50 fan as a hand-me-down.

    You think its suitable?
