    Hello,

I fell in love with Artichoke dip when I was in the U.S and would like to attempt to make this myself.

I've googled recipes and most of the call for a tin of artichoke hearts, and advise the use of the tinned ones as they are already seasoned.

Can anyone tell me if tins of artichoke hearts are available in supermarkets here, or if I would need to go to a specialist food store to find them?

I'm fairly certain I have never seen the tins in a supermarket before.

Also, does anyone advise against the tins and going fresh instead?

    Thanks for any replies

When I boil artichokes, I pull off one of a leaf from the bottom near the stem, and when it comes off easily, they are done.

I've seen tinned artichoke hearts in Supervalu (green tin, with the tinned spinach, 'posh' beans and French beans) - but I don't like the tinned version - far too acidic for my taste. Sacla do an antipasto jar of artichoke hearts in herby oil - nicer flavour, and good for pizza toppings. I'd go with fresh artichokes, but they are somewhat labour intensive. TBH, I don't think you can beat a freshly boiled artichoke, with a pot of melted garlic butter to dip the leaves in, and then the gorgeous creamy heart at the end.

Lidle do small tender artichokes but in oil i think. I love ham and artichoke hearts mashed up. Must say I prefer the little italian ones rather than the big fat turnipy french ones.
