Building across from Bewleys Hotel (roundabout on N32)

Hi Folks,

There is an old building off the roundabout on N32 across from Bewleys Hotel.
The entrance has a yellow barrier across it.

I drive by it every morning, but only really noticed it this morning.

It looks like about 150 – 200 years old (that’s a guess btw :rolleyes:) and has four distinct pillars on each corner.

I have viewed it on google map but have gotten no info.

Anybody know anything about it?

Would love to have a closer look......

I love the tower in the middle of the roof.

It kinda reminds me of an old science or engineering building from the Victorian Era.

Would love to know what it was.....:rolleyes:

That house is Woodlands House. It's one of the few remaining queen anne houses designed by sir edward lovett pearse (same guy as the original houses of parliment (now the bank of ireland), built in 1745 by the reverend john jackson (vicar of santry). It is in private family ownership but is a protected structure, number 1907 here.

I believe it was the residence of the chief of the british army here at one stage although could easily be corrected on that. There's been a few plans made for it including turning it into a office park of some type.

They are called chimneys. People used them years ago to funnel smoke from fires they used to burn inside the house (for the purpose of heating said house, there was no central heating back then).
