It's a joke that Vidic@7M and Keane@3.75M are not there.

graham dorrans who the hell is he? wheres kevin doyle

It's a joke that Vidic@7M and Keane@3.75M are not there.

vidic is arguable but keane was the british record transfer at the time, so he can hardly be classified as a bargain,

Dennis Irwin on the other hand was a definite bargain, as was Gian Franco Zola

EDIT, actually Irwin falls just outside the twenty year time frame, still an amazing bargain though

I'm surprised Evra didn't make the list and maybe Benayoun to Liverpool too. It's a decent list but he left off a lot of players who made bigger impacts.

That broke the British transfer record at the time. Great value for money in hindsight but not a bargain in the sense Stelling is operating with.

  • Registered Users Posts: 239 ✭✭Andre80Johnson

Surprised there is no Sol Campbell there. Oh well.

  • Registered Users Posts: 239 ✭✭TheEscapist

Oh and also Fabregas, free transfer and didn't Van Persie only cost like £3.5m?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,048 ✭✭✭partyndbs

ye but fabregas was a kid

Wouldn't have him anywhere near this list.
6ish million, three seasons in and out of the team. Not close to the top 20

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,150 ✭✭✭✭LuckyGent88

Roy Keane 3.75 million from Forest to Man United :)
Lional Messi from Newell's Old Boys to Barcelona - pay for medical bills :)

When you compare it to Vieira@4.1M in 1996 which made it high up the list it is IMO.

17 Peter Whittingham Aston Villa to Cardiff 2007 £410k

It was actually a £350k fee and the then 21 year old went on to play 160 games for Cardiff scoring 40 goals with a couple of Wembley appearances under his belt.

Good bargain considering that if Villa wanted to buy him back to replace the Man Utd bound Ashley Young then they would probably have to stump up around £6m for him.

I though he was 16 when he signed for Arsenal? And then made his debut within a year of signing. Think it can be seen as an astute signing considering how quickly he made it into the first team.

That helped us to win trophies in that era.

Ah you're right. I'm probably remembering him more so when he was scoring against Madrid and what not and thinking he was a great signing. But I do think he had more of an impact for his team than say Zat Knight.

How much did Villa pay for Dwight Yorke? Have an idea it was low enough.
Also Coleman at 60k to Everton.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,048 ✭✭✭✭chopperbyrne

Jussi Jaskelainen was only 100k or something like that.

    Absolute steal.

seems to be a lot of players on the list who just had reasonably solid rather than spectacular careers. the likes of novo macdonald dorrans knight and whittingham are probably as average as youll get. im sure theres loads of players knocking around who have had better careers than that lot. id have put di canio higher on that list and schmeichel too. ole gunnar solskjaer should be on the list - a bargain at £1.5 mill

You actually personify the downward spiral in quality that this forum has suffered over the last year or two.

kolo toure should definitely be on this list £150,000 to arsenal

One of West Brom's better players to answer your (shocking) question.

Why because he didn't know who Dorrans is? Get over yourself.

Pretty much yeah, if your not in the top 6 of the premiership half of the folk around here are ignorant to your existance.

Says it all that people are willing to defend that really.

Whatever about not knowing who a player is, fair enough. But google is everyone's friend.

Yeah but google doesnt give you quite the same air of self indulgent elitism as "Who The Hell Is He?!" does it?

Where the hell is Bosko Balaban!

Steve Finnan would be a decent shout for Fulham.

Indeed, Zat Knight couldn't have cost that much.

The lack of Solskjaer is surprising as well.

    Joking obviously.

Chicharito could go down as greatest of all time if he keeps improving.

I cant understand why Edwin Van Der Sar isnt on the list,2m from Fulham to Man Utd

Henry at 11m has to be a bargain, lest we forget he was absolute world class at one stage

£2.7 M for Brian Laudrup in 1994 wasn't a bargain. Damn good player but not a bargain!

Mad Men's Don Draper : What you call love was invented by guys like me, to sell nylons.

At the end of the day, it's up to the person preferred choice of knowing who's who in the Premiership, regardless of which team he supports and positioning. Hell he might even know who the 3rd choice goalkeeper in the youth team of his following. It goes to show he puts more attention to his own team rather than knowing who is who for other teams. It might seem stupid it isn't ignorant.

    LOL

The greatest bargain I'd imagine he meant.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,480 ✭✭✭✭cson

Van Persie @ £2.75m is probably worth a shout.

To the lad who doesn't know who Dorrans is; you should watch him play, star in the making imo. Himself and Brunt won't be too long more at WBA.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 355 ✭✭vestanpance

Lucas Radebe - Kaiser Chiefs to Leeds for £250k was a fairly good bargain.

    free signing, not a transfer

    fabregas was a free.
what has RVP done with arsenal since he signed?

good thing the list wasnt listing players who have had the most successful careers then.

i dont think anyone could argue with people on the list really. when you look at all the players, everyone of them either was instrumental in their clubs fortunes afterwards and/or were sold at a big profit.

people listing coleman are having a laugh really

Thought he had done more to be honest.

    04-05 26 app 5 goals
    05-06 24 app 5 goals
    06-07 22 app 11 goals
    07-08 17 app 7 goals
    08-09 28 app 11 goals
    09-10 16 app 9 goals
    10-11 16 app 11 goals

No good to a team if he is always injured I suppose.
    Still a class player though.

For around 5m? Not really. Benn brilliant for us since joining but when he joined for 5m it wasn't really a bargain.
