Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Will the fatcheese offer mean you get €11 back if you buy one of the refurb modems? There was a similar thing at Christmas with Three and bethrifty.ie, I got that one and my cash back offer is still 'awaiting approval' :)

I missed out on the 3 offer so will definitely go for this one. As kdouglas says it's handy to have around especially if it gives you free wifi in certain areas.

Haven't had any problems getting cashback with fatcheese so far and I've now been paid over €100 from them. This offer was on their newsletter yesterday.

    Cheers, just ordered one.

Nice one. I just joined fatcheese for this, I see that they have referrals, and one of the options is that the person referred gets €1 extra on their first transaction worth over €1 and the person referring gets nothing.

    http://www.fatcheese.ie/?referrer=30016367&method=give

I don't get anthing out of this, I dislike referral spam but this seems ok to me. If this is not ok then please remove with my apologies.

If I get one of these and unlock it, can I stick my vodafone PAYG sim card from my phone into it and paying the 99c per day get broadband? Or is it a separate sim card for broadband use?

Well I do that with my 3 phone sim without any problem, but I don't know whether Voda allows it,

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,927 ✭✭✭paddyp

Updated the firmware, no difference, rebooted to ubuntu and of course it all works perfectly. God bless ubuntu it is also the only operating system that plays well with my hp bluetooth module.

Got one delivered today, thanks OP.

Unlocked it and seems to work fine with the O2 sim from my phone :)

Handy as a backup as I don't need a frequent use one.

been looking to get one of these things for a while. What the fatcheese reward money it makes it a great deal as your getting it for free basically and and €10. How long do fatcheese normally take to award the cashback?

I wonder if fatcheese is actualy going to get 20€ from meteor for this or if they just are going to deny the cashback on this.

Even if Meteor is pumping up it's book by getting loads of active mobile broadband paygo customers selling something for 9€ (with no shipping cost) and than paying 20€ as cashback seams too good to be true.

Never the less, as refurbished E173 (which does HSDPA 7.2MBps never the less) to get the food in the door for the free Wifi on Meteor is just a too good bargain to pass on.

So I buy and even if I don't get cashback I still made a good bargain, so thanks OP.

You don't need to enter any code. You just need to click the get cashback button to bring you to the meteor website, then fatcheese knows you've bought from them and will credit your account with the €20. It may take a few minutes to appear.

Oh right, because when I used the fatcheese site to order those €10 meteor phones a few weeks ago, I had to enter the code in the fatcheese site after ordering, but I cant seem to find that section now.

Wait a coupel of hours, meteor should show up in the "Summary" page of fatcheese and you might get a verify transaction link (that happen to me too before).

If the meteor purchase does not show up in either "Summary" or "Statement" in a few days make sure that you can see your click in "My Clicks" and than submit a claim.

I have noticed that shopping at several retailers like House of Fraser, Debenhams usualy does not show up so I have several Claims pending.

DC-Unlocker unlock all the Meteor dongle models for €4 each.

    http://www.dc-unlocker.com/

    Here's their prices.

    http://www.dc-unlocker.com/buy/user_prices

Never had a problem with them, quick and straightforward.

Huawei are slow to pull their finger out with Windows 7 (particularly 64bit). I've had trouble with anything below or at the E180.. No issues with the Huawei E182, works fine.

Any of the dongles work fine with the latest Mint\Ubuntu (Linux) etc..

Don't worry it works fine witn this model. To the other poster in general don't pay much attention to compatibility lists on blog posts you can't expect them to maintain accurate or exhaustive lists.

    Guessed that, cheers for confirming

Unlocked using http://www.bb5.at/huawei.php?imei=XXXXXXXXXX replacing the X's with my modems IMEI and the s/w linked in an earlier post.

My desktop didn't have the drivers for the modem but my laptop installed them fine using Windows Update and both running Win7 x86. I did install Meteors s/w which comes on the device in case that had the drivers.

Tested my PAYG vodafone sim and it worked. Hopefully my credit hasn't been wiped out. You wouldn't know with them.

And now my SIM won't work in my phone...... Yikes!

[EDIT] - Fixed - Putting the SIM in the right way round helped!

How does PAYG work. If I top up by say €10 do I have a certain time limit to use it or can I take as long as I like/need.

    Cheers Joe

Going by an earlier post, with Meteor you can pay daily, weekly or monthly and the data limits arent bad. I just used my vodafone phone sim so I am expecting to pay 99c for todays data use. The data limit using vodaphone PAYG is crap, something like 50mb.

Is there a browser or firefox extension for example that allows you to view webpages in mobile formats? This would be handy as it would let you view far more pages and not use up data as quick.

    Thanks

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,927 ✭✭✭paddyp

@tinie You can install opera mini and use that use microemu to run the jar from opera.com http://microemu.org/

Alternatively use firefox addons useragent switcher to spoof a phone user agent and xhtml mobile profile to view the xhtml
