2011 Volkswagon Passat Numberplate lights.

hey,
i bought LED bulbs for the numberplate lights on a 2011 passat but the sensor is showing that the bulb is faulty even though they are working fine. I was wondering if i fitted a higher amp fuse would it make any difference?? If so what number is the numberplate fuse as Volkswagon dont provide a Fuse diagram with new cars anymore

The LED will be drawing much less power than a typical bulb so car thinks its not working at all.
I think people fit a resistor in the circuit to fool the system.
This will defeat the sensor for good though as the resistor will create a false loading so you wont get a warning if any of the new ones fail.

What 'sensor' is showing a blown numberplate bulb? Like as in on your dash?

The original bulbs are 5w each, the warning sets off if there is too little load on the circuit.
Joining a 270 ohm 1 watt resistor to either end of each bulb will create enough load to make the warning light stay off.

I'm sure you can get bulbs with built in resistor

Not a fuse - the system expects a certain current draw but your LEDs are operating on less current. You'll need a resistor (look up what value to use) to fool the "bulb blown" warning

yeah on the dash with warning "check numberplate lighting".

WOW. Sorry. I didn't think they changed them. Jeez, nearly every VAG for years have had Festoon bulbs.

Just so you know, those bulbs will not work nor will canbus friendly ones so because I had tried canbus friendly ones in my front sidelights and they will not work.

I haven't been able to figure it out yet other than fitting a resistor.(dont bother).

The LEDs do not draw enough current so the ECU registers a blown bulb.

You could go putting in resistors but that will probably invalidate your warranty. My advice: Put the proper bulbs back

Just put the original ones back in, surely not everyone with a vag has the constant urge to make it look more high spec then it is.

If you try to fit resistors etc without knowing what you are doing you can very easily damage the can bus system.

Those cheap LED numberplate bulbs on ebay are a waste of money, I bought loads of them and they all blew after a few weeks or months. I just put the original ones back in.
