spend €93 on Europe from Garmin or buy a new GPS ?

Having just bought a nuvi1310 with Ireland & UK, I now find that I am going to be heading to France & Spain in the Summer.

I looked on the Garmin site and I can add Europe mapping for €93.

Or, I could buy Spain & Portugal for €40 and France & Benelux for another €40.

Or, I could just go to Argos and get one of these for €87 - http://www.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/5042623/Trail/searchtext%3EGPS.htm

So, why wouldn't I just go and get the one in Argos (or anywhere else), and end up with a spare GPS for Mrs Zag to use ? Am I missing something ?

I wouldn't recommend that. Stick with Garmin or TomTom. They are the only guaranteed source of up to date maps. Add a few more €s and you will get a decent entry level device from either Garmin or TomTom

Stick to either of those no matter what you choose.
Keep away from Halfords own brands as well , you will never get map updates.

Keep an eye, as Halfords usually have few deals on Garmin Sat Navs. The 1300's are a good range of Sat Navs, with most of the features and maps you will need.

Try this 1340 From amazon £ 89 with free delivery and gives you the maps you need. Just a small bit more than the Argos one and a better unit.

If you can upload maps to your device, have you considered trying Open Street Maps? Have a look here and see if the areas you will be travelling in have sufficient detail for your needs.

OSM falls well behind Garmin in most areas. Even where it is good, the routing is not, I dont think it was designed with routing in mind. It is better than nothing and free on the other hand... just dont expect a similar experience. I'd take out of date Garmin maps over OSM.

Why not just get the numaps lifetime and you get to pick any maps you want and you get updates forever for your device?
