Coillte has announced a consultation on its district strategic plans for 2011-15.

You can download the plans from: http://www.coillte.ie/coillteforest/plans/district_strategic_plans/draft_district_strategic_plans_2011_2015/

Since so many people have expressed concern about the potential sale of Coillte, this is an excellent opportunity to make your voice heard about what Coillte means to you and how it can improve over the next five years.

Since the Dublin/Wicklow area is my main area of concern, this is what they have planned:
Coillte’s proposed recreation priorities for the South Dublin Wicklow District between 2011 and 2015 include:
    • Managing and maintaining all existing recreation sites including way marked ways to the highest standards.
    • Sourcing funding and developing new infrastructure including ‘access for all’ based on needs identified in conjunction with stakeholders and funding agencies, and to enhance local tourism potential.
    • Managing unauthorised usage of the recreation infrastructure in line with best management practice and security policy.
    • Engaging with local community groups and where possible agreeing partnership arrangements for the maintenance and enhancement of existing facilities and possible development of new ones.
Continuing our exploration of the development of amenities with the Dublin Mountains Partnership and Wicklow Outdoor Recreational Committee and other local groups including:
    • The completion of the Tiknock Mountain Bike Trail.
    • Upgrading of sections of the Dublin Mountain Way.
    • Upgrading parking facilities.
    • The repair and sustainable development of the Sean Lenihan walk.
    • Assist in the development of a walking trail between Laragh and Rathdrum.
It is anticipated that a District Recreation Plan will be completed for the South Dublin Wicklow District during the lifetime of this plan and this plan will be consulted on separately.

    Key Objective 9
In the South Dublin Wicklow District Coillte aims to:
Continue to support the aims of the Dublin Mountains Partnership
Continue to support the work of PURE
Work in partnership with the Wicklow Outdoor recreational Committee to develop recreational facilities in the Wicklow area.
    Finalise the District Recreation Plan.

Consultation Question 3 – Community Development, Recreation and Tourism
Do you agree with Coillte’s proposals for community development, recreation and tourism development in the South Dublin Wicklow area between 2011 and 2015.
Do you have any other suggestions to make?
