Anyone here aiming for sub 1:30?
Weather looking pretty good. Dry and overcast, with a gentle breeze (4 m/s) that will carry us for the first half and cool us down for the return journey. :)

Last yr only 5 people finished sub 1:30, conditions were awful and the sand storm on the way back was something i've never seen before.

Oh and not a chance of me getting close to that.........2hr is more in line for me.

But to run with the Garmin God will be an honour;)

Yeah any winds coming from a mildly westerly direction will be good because the City will block them to some extent. It's the easterly winds that would cause the problem as they will come directly off the sea and the runners would be exposed to them, so definately looking good at the moment.

Where / when to pick up the race kit with Chip/T-Shirt?

    Best place to park?

    Thanks

Did you get your email with all the details? Looks like you didn't and with the website problems, does anyone have Eoin's number to give him a heads up on the tech problems he appears to be having.

    In answer:

Sat reg 4 to 6pm and Sun 8 to 9.15 am at the start/finish line at the Wind Scultupure near the Dart station in Clontarf.

Take the bus or cycle, good way to warm up/cool down with a walk/cycle afterwards.

'Google' the race for all the details - Clontarf Half Marathon should do the trick

Yep, was happy enough to head for a 1:35 initially, but found out Tuesday that one of the lads from the club is pacing 1:30, so it would be rude not to keep him company... Probably blow to pieces on the caseway road...

Thanks chinguetti - didnt get the email, but found the stuff online alright ;)

    All set now I think.

I'm above and over my eyeballs. Anyway
We had 200 entries in the past 2 days - which is great. But it now means we only have 50 spots left for the Half marathon & 50 for five mile....
Thats what we can cater for at this point in time. I'm not going with the pile em high approach. I want the ppl who have entered to enjoy themselves

Entries were being taken online right up to midnight last night. It's unfortunate if you didn't get in? (maybe problems online etc.) but pls take it up with Active Europe directly. I can't help you - it is their system. I just pass the emails on to them.

So registration is open tomorrow (Sat) 4pm to 6pm at the Start/ finish line. I'm going to release 25 entries for the Half Marathon & 25 for the five mile on Sat.
The remainder of the 25 Half and 25 5 mile entries will be available on Sunday. Thats the 50 entries I said would be available on Sunday from Website.

I am going to be fair to eveyone and its first come first served. I won't reserve any spots - sorry. If you don't want to risk the journey then please don't come. It's you call.... Please please don't phone me. It's not being rude but i have to work and get things done otherwise the race won't happen till Monday if you get my drift.....

We closed last night and i got badly delayed today so I'm going to try and get some info relating to the above up onthe website.

    Q. Can someone pls post (attach) the info in the email I sent. I can't do it. And I gotta go. Many thanks if you can...

    Eoin

Sorry for the panicy phone call today Eoin... you were right not to talk to me.... :D

Found the email in my trash/junk folder. Damn Filters... here it is for anyone else....
Attached the details of the Clontarf Half Marathon & 5 mile on Sunday 3rd.

Weather looks good... famous last words!

The info sheet and Map are attached here. Map is in Powerpoint or word format - its the same map.

Reminder that we have Registration on Saturday from 4pm to 6pm at the start/finish area of half Marathon.

    Regards

    Eoin

    See ya sat/sun!

    Muppet Man.

I'm not able to open the email attachments for whatever reason...

I presume we don't need anything but our names to collect our numbers and chips etc today in Clontarf? And can I collect my missus' stuff as she can't make it over?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 739 ✭✭✭eoin ryan

    yes and yes :)

The same detail is up on website. Try there maybe???!

Organisation at the end of this race was not great, where was the stewards on the pathway coming in to the finish line, some runners stayed on the path and ran past the finish line....

Saw that but I thought it was fairly obvious to run under the clock, still a marshal pointing the way would have avoided it.

It was ridiculously hot too, especially for the last 3 miles. Found it really tough but still managed a PB so delighted!

no fault with the organisation, though the whole thing went off pretty well! the race itself ... well i puked and wretched my way though the second half ( thanks to people who asked if i was ok btw!) , managed to finish in 1.50 , very close to tears ! my worst race ever ! never felt that bad or puked before ! i'll be back next year to give it another go!:) all an experience !

Gave it 4 stars, great weather and a great course - but organisation was not a patch on Somthing like dunshaughlin last week or other large club races where there are loads of people helping out at all stages.

Same as that, would have been 5 stars otherwise. This is the 3rd race i done organised by Eoin Ryan and couldn't find any big fault with any of them. Like to pay a big thank you to Menoscemo and the man helping him doing the 1.45 pacing group. Improved my P.B from over 2 hrs to 1.43.58 according to the time i was texted.

I'm just beck home after running along the length of the promenade at Clontarf. The place is a total mess. Was there no plan to clean up after the race?? There are hundreds of plastic bottles thrown around all over the place.

Its a disgrace if there's no clean up exercise organised.

I've never seen anything like it at other races.

See our previous two posts on organisation of the race today, versus races organised by clubs with loads of folks helping out...

That said, the normal folks in the race should be ashamed if the area was left in a state. Its not hard to keep your rubbish together and put in a bin or one of the empty boxes [both of which there were plenty around]

yes a big thanks to the pacers...a good day .super weather... A bit too super( never happy!)
thought it a fairly easy route for marshalling, didn't require much and those there were great... I'd stick a bit more emphasis on last 200 hundred metres maybe... Quite open, but that's not a complaint just a suggestion...
Kind of glad there wasn't another 13, or 26 extra today!!
