First: Slane 1993 (Neil Young, Pearl Jam).

Best: Smashing Pumpkins SFX 1995 or Blur Olympia Theatre 2003

Worst: Smashing Pumpkins The Point 1996 for obvious reasons though Kings of Leon/Pixies Landsdowne Road 2005 is close.

Huge fan of them and always wanted to see them but I'm getting a little nervous now reading that.

Purely the sound, John was made aware of the issues and asked those at the mixing desk to fix but it never improved. Chris Issak was the support and his set was perfect. We later found out they had the same issues in London the night before so they were aware of it but did nothing to rectify the issues. It was a dreadful night.

First: Feile 92. Lots of decent bands in the line-up - Therapy, David Byrne, James, Primal Scream, A-House, Christy Moore, The 4 of Us. And the only recollection I have of the music is Simply Red – Mick Hucknell flaunting his red mane, whilst singing like a girl.

Best: Tough call between Eddie Vedder 2 years ago, or Sigur Ros in the Olympia back around the Takk tour. Paid €100 for a €30 ticket (feckin touts). But the fact that my conclusion afterwards that it was well worth it probably elevates that gig above anything else for me.

Worst: Modest Mouse in The Helix. Was so looking forward to this. Had really been into them for years. And then Boom – sound was worse than dreadful. Could hardly make out what song they were playing until half way into the tune. Should really have been a refund of the ticket cost for that gig. And they didn’t even seem like trying to improve the sound during the gig. It was just one big mess.

Best : Florence & The Machine - Ceremonials tour 2012 The Point

Worst : The Chemical Brothers in the Point (probably 2002 or something)

First - Bowie, The Point 1990

Best - Viagra Boys, Grand Social a few weeks back. These guys are awesome

Worst - Guns n roses. Slane 1992 ( i think)

First - Kasabian in the Big Top in Limerick in 2014, pretty cool to see a band who a few weeks later would play the Glastonbury main stage in your hometown.

Best - Radiohead in the 3arena in 2017, was at the second to last row in the back, but the atmosphere was amazing, felt almost like a religious experience with how great the crowd was, and the fact they closed with How to disappear completely was stunning.

Arcade Fire in the 3arena was incredible, Nine Inch Nails in Madrid with Queens of the Stone Age before them. The War on Drugs in London with Slowdive as support was a top quality gig, would love to see The War on Drugs grow in popularity to fill the 3arena.

Worst - Massive Attack in Madrid. Was pretty close to the barrier, not far from the centre. The tent was packed and the anger could be felt. After over an hour when they should have played their set, the PA annouces they aren't coming on because of soundbleed from the other stage on the far side of the grounds. Too them Franz Ferdinand was too loud. Can't bring myself to listen too their music, despite enjoying it.

I was there too but hardly the worst gig if they didn't play!

First: Radiohead Punchestown, 2000. Not a bad first gig I must say. Got bus up from Waterford with the college 'music society'. Kid A tour, the album wasn't long out and it divided their fans, but I loved the album and great gig.



Best: Sigur Ros Vancouver in 2008. Small 1200 capacity auditorium venue in UBC. Hundreds of desperate people queuing outside for a ticket, but no way I would have sold mine. Unbelievable gig, very glad I caught them before they graduated to bigger vanues and arenas.

Best- Rammstein- 3arena 2012. Epic night!



Worst- The Chemical Brothers in Marlay Park. They finished early and left out a few songs I loved. I just remember being disappointed after it. Can't remember the year either.

First: Prince in Pairc Ui Caoimh, 1990. As a 17 year old and a massive Prince fan, mind was well and truly blown. retrospectively, it was all a bit pants really.

Best: Radiohead at Brixton Academy, 1995. Travelled (ticketless) to London just to see this. Managed to get a ticket from a tout before the show for a whopping £15 :pac:
They opened with Street Spirit, finished with Nobody Does it Better and road-tested some material that would eventually end up on OK Computer. I would go on to see them another 19 times after this. Love, love, love this band.


Worst: Morrissey at The Point, 1992. Had seen him earlier the same year at the National Stadium. Now that was a great gig. This, however, was truly awful. Left about half way through.

Best :Throw up between Eric Clapton and Albert Lee again in City Hall back early in the early 80’s ,and Josh Ritter,in the Opera house last November!

Worst : probably Joan Armourplating, Connolly Hall!

First: feile 94, the final trip to tipp. Was 15 or 16 and not sure who we technically saw first, possibly the beautiful south or crowded house. Looking back, we were too young and innocent to enjoy it, completely wet behind the ears and ****ting ourselves the first day at the sheer scale of it. Still remember the prodigy and house of pain being absolutely mental tho. Wish I was older to really enjoy it tho. It was some lineup.

Last: Richard Thompson in Vicar Street on Saturday. Brilliant, my first time to see him, privileged to get the chance.

Best: Hard to say, Richard Hawley and Wilco Johnson in the Iveagh Gardens a couple of summers ago was superb. Joe Bonamassa in Vicar Street last year, simply because I'm a huge fan. Gary Clark Jr in the button factory a few years ago, hearing that level of guitar play in such a small venue is an opportunity not to be missed.

Worst: Beck in the o2/3 arena last year I think. Went with the missus cos she is a big fan of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs who were support, they were actually really good but after they left the stage, Beck didn't turn up for probably an hour, the first thing he said was we've to be off stage at so and so and then rattled thru his songs without appearing to give a ****e in my opinion. He was gone pretty much on time too. Pretty poor form.

Worst: Fleetwood Mac in RDS in June - purely because of the crowd, couldn't escape people having full on conversations no matter how many times I moved

First: Not sure about my first concert. Was probably a gig in Button Factory or Temple Bar Music Centre as it was back then. One of my first big concerts was Paul Simon in Kilkenny 2002. Or Deep Purple in 2003.

Best: Liquid Liquid at EP in 2010. Or Laurent Garnier at EP in 2010. Possibly Paul Simon in 2002.

Worst: Can't remember any really bad concerts. They've usually always been a lot of fun.

First was metallica @ the point 1992, which gave me tinnitus. Ears have been ringing ever since. Still a great gig though.

Last was seeing the National at the main stage @ Atn 2019 which were also brilliant.

Next is the Foo Fighters @ the RDS this Wednesday 2019

Best was Rage Against the Machine @ the 02 in 2009, there 6 or 7 of us who were out of work due to the recession, the adrenaline from coming out of that gig gave us all a lift, aboslunly amazing. The crowd were nuts, everyone was on the there feet.

Worst was a band called Arca, on Sat @ B&S Main stage, 2018, un-listenable.

First: Feile 1995 in Pairc Ui Chaoimh with the likes of Blur, Beautiful South, M People and of course The Kelly Family! Made all the better by bumping into Blur in the fairground after their set.

Best: Green Day, SFX 1998. One of the sweatiest venues on the planet, seeing the band I had idolised through my latter school years. Threw my t-shirt on stage and Billie-Joe put it on. Honorable mentions - Any time I've seen Arcade Fire play.

Worst: RHCP Phoenix Park 2004. Following on from the trend of RHCP bashing, the sound and venue for this were horrendous. To be fair, I've seen RHCPs since and very much enjoyed them.
