That's the wee bugger. He likes sandwiches. Isn't very keen on Piebald Ponies though!

He's a lovely dog. I know what you mean OP. I used to walk my dog past the halting site and fields, last time was about 6 months ago, the dog got a bit scared with the horses being so close and walking towards us, she was trying to hurry past. Even back then what was worrying was the horses right next to the halting site were unrestrained and no barrier between them and footpath.

I knew a fella in Limerick was driving along next to an area where there fields of horses not restrained very well, in the city I should add, and a horse jumped the tiny fence and went running on the main road, jumped up onto the person's car. Person was unhurt but could easily have suffered serious injuries in that situation. Strong possibility similar thing could happen with the horses up in Gracedieu.

My sister is afraid of them too, because she walks through the field from my house to her's in Gracedieu. Horses have gone for her a few times now. It's very unsafe. I can usually jump the fence from them, but my dog is usually too scared too and keeps running around the field. He's so small, a kick from the horse could kill him.

Paisley & Robinson are like angels compared to these horses. One tried to headbutt me, the other chased my wee dog around the field for 10 minutes.

Headbutt? they must be from glasgow then...Rangers fans most likely :D

Next time he tries to headbutt you just catch him in an arm/hoof bar and make him tap out. The rest of them be to scared of you then.

We have a law that ignores these people and these people ignore the law.

He's still only a wee pup. Hasn't grown much more than that.

Might not be related, but until recently the travelers had practically every building in the old foundry at Bilberry given over to stabling horses (including the office space and all the prefabs). Apparently, judging by the amount of horse manure and the size of the toadstools growing on it, they were there a good while too.

The demolition might explain why they're at Hillview in force now. I assume they knew a few weeks ago about the demo and made alternate arrangements. Tbh, when I first saw the work crews at Bilberry I assumed they were demolishing the prefabs to deny them the use of the place.

Go out around kilbarry and see the amount of land thats taken over by Horses.
Id like to see a local law that if you keep Horses within the city boundaries that you must have stables built including planning permission for these stables. Not a sheet of plastic to shelter the Horses from the weather.
Would also like to see a permit needed for the use of Horse and carts around the city.To obtain the permit you must be of a certain age and complete some written exam of rules of the road.

Ah yea leave em have nags littered in all the green areas up the road, until they come out on it and kill a motorist or cyclist. Only recently one nearly killed a woman on the orr wrote off her van and was found dying up in a field. Up back hillview, the scum arrivided in a hiace and took the pieball b4 the cops arrived, leavin the woman in her sixties bleedin by her van......

those pony & traps are a hazard to road traffic, I've seen them going up and down the cork road with huge tailbacks behind them. If someone were to smash into one of them there would be carnage.

I live in the area, and also find it annoying that I can never walk through the fields anymore because of the horses. I miss the way the area was before the road was built.

I think you need to research the meaning of "piebald" -- you'll find that it's the official term for the horses in question. Source

Think wires have been crossed, he wasnt referring a member of the travelling community as a piebald.

I live up on the carrickphierish rd not too far from the travellers private estate and adjoining field and in the 3 years iv being here iv seein and heard a fair bit , but in general they are not any nuisance to anyone in adjoining estates and keep themselves to themselves, but on the horses i can tell you imo the amount of horse has trebled if not more over that period they are breeding them and i think from what i was told this is the reason some horses are seperated from others and are tied up on the side of the road .

They did once only use a field next to them and the one across the road from them but now every field has horses in it , last year a horse was found dead down in one of the fields and when someone mentioned it to a traveller on the road (in case he did not know) the traveller said no thats not our horse .

On the fields bein boarded up i would not be one bit surprised if the animal welfare and the gardai told them to do that as on many occasions horses have spilled out of the fields 15-20 horses at times , one time people in our estate had to go out closing up our gates as all the horses were running wild around the front gardens . That seems to of stopped now , i will say after 3 years i taught we would of had alot more hassle and in fairness the travellers have kept to themselves , the horses seem to be the only problem and i too would be upset if fields i use to use were bein taken over but its simply the amount of horses they have now is crazy never done a count but i may try do a rough estimate soon :D

Yeah, one night about a year ago, two of them ended up in my garden up the old road, and took a dump on my lawn.

I have already contacted the Waterford City Council, and I'm awaiting a response. What exactly is it you suggest we do? Escort the horses off ourselves?
