It's those Rossavealians with their bonfires on the beach luring ships ashore.

Saw it earlier. Tis an odd view in the bay.

Twice this week that area is in the news. First the water, then rock lusting boats.

Surely that oily Carraroe drinking water could grease its underneath into the water. It will all end up in Casla bay anyway.

You can't drink Carraroe water any ways, oil or no oil.

There's eating and drinking in that stuff all year round.

There are a few local fishermen keeping an eye out, hoping the staff are evacuated so they can claim salvage on the thing.

Well its been towed off. There were two tugs, Bison from Killybegs, and another one from Foynes which appears to be escorting it into Galway. The tug is following it, so probably just in case and all that. They should be nearing the docks in about an hour i'd say. Any ideas when the gates open?

She's not German either. It looks like she's Canadian owned and registered in Antigua/Barbuda. Was out to have a look at her anchored in the channel the night before she ran aground.

    She is off Furbo/Ballyvaughan now.

She is German owned here is the link to the company,on the front page they say that the ship is aground in Ireland, also she is not coming into Galway she is off Blackhead where the company will decide where to go to dry dock her for hull inspetion.

That tug has been circling her since 8am and shows no sign of leaving but you could always simply ring the Captain to check where there is an oil spill or something :)

Could be busy in Galway Docks - if she manages to get in without hitting anything, a tanker is on route as well.

I guess that they will try to assess the damage & hope that she can go back to Rossaveal to collect the ferries.

Not a notion, The Heavy Lift Ship "Pantanal" is actually too wide to get into Galway Docks. The Tug with her is The "Celtic Aisle".The Oil Tanker Galway Fisher is a frequent visitor to Galway.

I wondered if that was the case. She is now anchored in the Bay but she did make an excursion towards Galway & then headed back. I would imagine that the divers, that will be sent to examine her, would prefer it if she was in dock rather than in open sea.

Er she isn't - just saw her when I was walking my dogs. She is on the far side of the Bay between Ballyvaughan & Black Head,

If you go to that site & click on vessel track you will see her Galway Bay excursion.

Rumour has it that she has two small punctures to the hull & we have to go to Belfast.

a ship named thor gitta is currently en route to Galway. Is this taking over the ferry lift job from the pantanal????

  • Registered Users Posts: 239 ✭✭Chicken1

The two ferries arrived in the docks yesterday and the new ship "Thor Gitta" is due to dock this evening weather permitting, they will be loaded in the docks, I was talking to a guy on one of the ferries who told me.
